Mercruiser, 4.3L, Alpha One,175 HP, rebuilt in 2018/inboard/outboard

Is that a sea ray 170? I had a 1991 for many years. Held up very well. As the kids got bigger it got smaller, bought a sea ray 200 sport about six years ago , nicer size

Mercruiser, 4.3L, Alpha One,175 HP, rebuilt in 2018/inboard/outboard

Absolutely its sellable unless. It may be less saleable if it is a 3.7 or inline six or really ancient. If in good shape try CL list complete drivetrain but you have to take the boat ... or list it higher if they leave what they dont want....

    Gimbal Bearing Compatibility and Source?

Interesting but something doesn’t add up my 2004 boat had a june 2003 build date driveline in it that still has its factory greasable gimbal bearing.

Edlebrock parts will fit in the weber carb, they are the same carb. https://www.edelbrock.com/pub/media/wysiwyg/documents/carb-owners-manual.pdf is the edlebrock carb bible you should be able to use calipers to figure out your step up rod sizes and see what edlebrock rod and jet combo will...

    Gimbal Bearing Compatibility and Source?

98 and newer gen 2 gimbal is bigger than a gen one or earlier gen two. I personally find iboats parts search impossible to use number nine on this page lists both merc and sierra parts for gen one gimbal bearings...

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

rattling noise was what i observed was related to engine speed. Basically started getting on a plane. Return line had loose clamp at ps cooler. Apparently clamps VP used tend to loosen up.

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

idling on muffs doesn't tell you much, running under load does. A shot in the dark - check your PS level. Had a neighbors boat (4.3 VP) making a rattling, the only thing I could visually see was low level and foam in PS reservoir. I never would have made the connection between the noise and...

Question about re-filling an Alpha with the drive lube monitor....

You will be fine as is. Mine I fill like you mention- pump through bottom of drive until I see it come up in the lube bottle, then top off lube bottle. Every spring once I run it it drops maybe an 1"-1.5" top it off and doesn't drop rest of the season. When you run it any air will work its way...

    5.7LX rebuild question

An excerpt from this page- https://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources/marine-carb.php A starting point for air/fuel mixtures for most performance marine engines is: Idle: 14.1-13.4 to 1 air/fuel mixture Cruise/light loads rpm 14.2 14.0 to 1 air/fuel mixture Power mixture and...

    Running non ethanal during layup

Or just disconnect the fuel pump if electrical or take fuel line off and run into a can, run the carb dry. If you have to rebuild every three years I suspect there's something else going on like your fuel tank has crud in it. I've run ethanol fuel for ten + years never had an issue just...

Purchasing a 1971 23' Winner, no engine, great shape...

For a first boat I think you'd be better served by find something that doesn't need a complete restoration. Judging by leaves in it , the graffiti inside, this has been sitting out uncovered for a long time, which as pointed out is a sure bet the stringers and transom are rotted. This is why the...

Alpha One Gen 2 Outdrive not going back on

If the alignment is good there's only a few things : Heavy amount of grease in coupler from alignment process drive and Shift linkage not in fwd ( you said this is ok) orings on driveshaft not going in gimbal bearing I think there are more orings than u need for a gen 2 in the gaskets set...

What is it like owning a 20yr old merc cruiser on a trailer boat?

merc 3.0 is one of the best entry level powerplants out there. What it is is durable, easy to work on, and inexpensive to operate and maintain, what it is not is fast or powerful. If reasonably well cared for will outlast the rest of the boat. Get a factory service manual for the engine and the...

Mercruiser 4.3 keeps burning ignition coil

I don't know how you would test this but you may want to try replacing the sensor in the distributor. I had a similar situation on a VW where sensor in distributor failed and would trickle voltage through it to coil. Kept ruining coils, replaced distributor and thus sensor problem went away.
