    Getting out of the boat

No boarding ladder? There are temporary boarding ladders that you could use when trailering. Not sure how to avoid getting wet though.

    Removing old water lines

Superclean is purple power. Same stuff. PP is generic Wallyworld version. If it is tape adhesive residue, try rubbing alcohol. Acetone will dissolve other kinds of adhesive.

No start after rewiring alternator 4.3 Mercruiser

I guess I will bite. What are you trying to achieve by rewiring the alternator? If you want to charge the house batteries, a battery switch is more flexible as it will allow you to charge house battery, starting battery or both. Normally the starting battery powers the ign switch, thru the...

Pressed in hub - remove or find washers?

Gee, why remove (ruin) a perfectly good prop hub. It is doubtful a flo torque hub will replace the original pressed in hub anyway. and what exactly would be the point? It should use the same thrust washer as the flo torque. It should also use a standard Mercury spider washer and splined...

    Removing old water lines

I would try Superclean first. If that doesn't get it, there is a product called Mary Kate On and Off. It is 3 kinds of acid and alcohol. Protect your hands and use a rag to wipe it on. Wait a couple of minutes and hose it off. Protect any galvanized metal, like on a trailer.

    1996 Mercury 115

Check for spark on all spark plug wires. If you have that, check compression on all cylinders. Engines need fuel, compression and spark to run. Report back on findings

    Drain plug

Drainplugs are usually brass pipe plugs. There are also snap-in rubber ones. What kind is yours?

    Ballast resistor? why

Point arcing and point burning are two different things. A condenser absorbs the voltage as the points open to reduce arcing, and immediately feeds that voltage back into the ign coil, helping to generate spark. Condensers are used on magneto and battery/coil/points ignition systems. Point...

    High Idle (2900rpm) - 1988 l6 115hp Mercury

You should probably do a link and synch, since the PO was clueless. Of at least check the idle pickup timing and max spark advance. A OEM service manual is in order, as it will be hard to find someone to work on those older engines. I do agree the idle speed is fine. Likely 800RPM or so.

    Ballast resistor? why

You might tell us the make and year of your engine, and repost in the correct forum for that engine. Old points/coil ignitions had resistors to drop the voltage to the points to help keep them from burning.

1999 mercury 3 cyl 90 hp gauge wiring and controls

Look for a silver disc on the head. It should have a serial number. You can look up the year on the maxrules web site. Tachometer wire should be grey. The motor would normally come with an overheat sender. Wire color would be tan. Crowleymarine should tell you whether the motor came with...

Help replacing key switch in ‘75 Mercury 500

The original keyswitch probably had a separate button for the choke. The new keyswitch is likely push to choke, so it needs the extra terminal. B terminal gets red wire I terminal gets white wire C terminal gets grey wire M terminal gets salmon wire M terminal gets black wire S terminal gets...

How to remove the front cowl bracket on a 1985 Mercury classic 50

It is common to need to remove the starter to get to the carb mounting nuts. Replace those that are rounded off. You will want new gaskets, inlet needle and seat and floats for those carb rebuilds. The original floats were not designed for alcohol in the gasoline and will dissolve.

usually we pull out the choke plunger, from the choke solenoid. Watch the choke solenoid wire and the switchbox wires. Best to disconnect the battery.

    73 1150 fuel pump/flow question

Gee, if you can fill the carbs by pumping the primer, the check valves should be in correctly, at least in one fuel pump. Maybe they are backwards in one fuel pump, starving the motor?

1995 Evinrude Ocean Pro 200 Carbed 2 stroke Flooding out at speed

Is that motor supposed to have an electric lift pump? Most outboards with carbs have a mechanical pulse pump. Actually on that motor you have a OMS pump that draws gasoline from the fuel tank, mixes the gasoline with 2 cycle oil and pumps it to the carbs. An electric pump could overwhelm the...

    Cable Nut wont start

The cable nut should slide over that flange, enough to engage the threads. Is that a new steering cable? You might pull the nut back onto the plastic part of the cable and shine a light into it. There has to be some debris inside the nut that is interfering. Something could have fallen into...

    73 1150 fuel pump/flow question

An air leak in your fuel line will cause those pumps to pump air. That should be your next check.
