    90 hp mercury leaking oil

Gasoline would mix with the oil, diluting it. Alternatively, oil will float on water, without mixing. It could then bubble up out of the dipstick.

    Identifying old 150

The hood (minus the latches) and it's decals look like my '93 motor. You look to be missing the lower cowling, which is what latches the hood. You might remove the hood and post some additional pictures. I would like to see how those telltales are plumbed.

1976 merc 1150 impeller part number

You will want to replace the impeller, wearplate and 2 gaskets, as a minimum. Inspect the pump cover for cracks and wear. Inspect the pump base for melting. Replace all damaged components.

    90 hp mercury leaking oil

I would expect that the oil has water in it. You should repost this in the Mercury forum.

Oil Leak Between Upper and Lower Unit

Just smell it. If it smells like gas or oil, it is 2 cycle oil. If it smells like rotten eggs, it is gear oil. If gear oil, the waterpump base seal (driveshaft seal, base gasket or Oring) is likely bad. If 2 cycle oil, it is probably normal.

    Name that boat trailer part

It is very hard to keep water out. Those plugs will likely trap water causing more harm. However, you do want chafe protection for the wiring. There are plastic bushings that protect the wiring and allow the water to drain out.

    Gas odor

A "red gas tank under the seats" implies a portable gasoline tank. If so, those are usually vented at the tank, and if full, you could smell gasoline in the boat. If the boat is constructed in a way that fumes cannot be trapped in bilge spaces, that is, a sealed deck, you are probably OK. If...

    Power Trim issue

Those PTT units look like the same style. I do not know if they will fit. I think I would try to drain and refill your PTT before I bought a used one, condition unknown. Maybe your fluid is bad or the wrong stuff? Take your unit off and dump out the fluid, pull the lower stainless steel...

    1977 Mercury 1500

Your motor will have the quick disconnect on the starboard side of the engine. If the adaptor you bought fits that, they you have no issue. All Mercs of that era used 1 extra wire. On your motor it is the orange or salmon colored one. It will have a female connector in the boat harness, but...

fixing gouges/exposed fiberglass in hull of my '89 speedboat

Marine-tex is a fine product. You could use ployester marine putty as well. You will need to sand and feather the hull, wipe with acetone and then apply the putty. After she hardens up, sand her smooth and apply a colored gel coat, or some spray paint for color.

    Switch box

You should repost this in the Mercury OB forum. Did you replace both switchboxes?

Cleaning grease and sand off prop shaft.

The Purple Stuff cleaner is a very good degreaser. Also, paint thinner will work well. Pretty much any solvent you have laying around should work. The good news is that the prop shaft is not fragile, so you can use most anything plus a wire brush (if necessary) to get her clean.

    Replacement Leaf springs

Measure between the bolts that hold the ends of the springs. That should be the spring length. You want the spring to be in contact with both bolts, with no load on the trailer. Slipper springs are pretty common. Shop around There is a place in Delaware that is pretty good (eastern...

    Spare gas tank

A really easy is to run one tank out. And switch over and come back.

    Spare gas tank

The rule of thumb or fuel is 1/3 out, 1/3 third back, 1/3 in reserve. So take some trips and see what meets that ratio.

    1977 Mercury 1500

I do not think parts are hard to find. Tune up stuff like spark plugs, waterpumps, carb kits and the like are readily available. If you break some part of the motor, that is a bit more tricky, but the web is a wonderful thing for stuff like that. Your mechanic probably never worked on one of...

    1977 Mercury 1500

Control boxes can be any Mercury compatible one you can find. I am using the MerControl from my '77 on my '93 Merc. The shift and throttle cables are the same. Boat harnesses are available on the web for $$. You could make your own from wires colored red, white, black, grey, yellow and...

    Spray Epoxy?.

looking at the web site...people spray that crap over the exterior paint of their cars! So now their hoods look like the interior of the trunk on a 70's Chevy Nova? Not for me. Not for my boat either I think. Too many cool colors and textures of indoor-outdoor carpet. However, it is your...

    Spray Epoxy?.

Not sure I would want that roll on stuff on my floor. How to get it off, if/when it goes bad or you don't like it. Also black is real hot on hot days. There are some marine vinyl products with non-slip ability. You glue 'em down like carpet. There are also a whole lot of different kinds...

    1979 murcury thunderbolt

The maxrules web site will have the wiring diagram. The boat and engine wiring harnesses are avail on the web. By now the engine wiring harness is likely bad. Look for crumbling insulation. If that motor is a '79, it will have 4 ign coils and no distributor. if it has a distributor, it is...
