Need help with parts list- converting TBi to old school carb

I'm thinking the only real differences is that the carb engine is not going to run as well after a cold start. Remember that some of us were driving long before fuel injection became standard on our vehicles and we are used to cold starting carbs. So that's one difference, power wise I thing a...

Need help with parts list- converting TBi to old school carb

Well guys if you can get and post up a V/P wiring schematic then we can figure it out. Because I can tell you based on my old OMC Cobra a carbed boat has a very simple wiring harness. Just guessing if you simply disconnect the connectors for the ECM, next you'd have to figure out how to hook up...

Need help with parts list- converting TBi to old school carb

See above, I THINK you can use it as is, because its the same distributor for a carbed (no ECM) vs EFI (ECM). You just lose the knock sensor system.

if the intake manifold has only 8 bolts holding it down to the cyl heads instead of 12, then yes, the vortec heads came on line about 97-98 or so. They add 25 or so hp by themselves.

I'd check Edelbrock's website to see what they say, I'd guess maybe 15-20 hp or so... for the ignition, I'd have to see a V/P wiring diagram, but unless your engine has a knock sensor, I think it is a self contained ignition system, so you just would keep the same connections to the OE harness...

Need help with parts list- converting TBi to old school carb

You can look at the Edelbrock marine 4bbl intakes, but it has to be a marine one for this application, they are bronze lined to prevent the aluminum from corroding, yes it may add some HP, but they are pricey. OUT OF STOCK ETA 4/11/2021 Edelbrock Marine 5.0L, 5.7L, 6.2L, 4 bbl. Intake Manifold...

That's the standard spread bore intake, so for either the Holley 4160 or Edelbrock you will need an adapter unless you use a Holley 4175. Yep looks like the EST, lucky because you can't get parts for the Prestolite BID.

First, what ignition system does this engine have? Is the Delco EST? you might post up some pix....because if that has a stand alone module not dependent on the ECM, then you can get rid of all the EFI stuff, keep the EST ignition stuff leave it connected to the OEM wiring harness and either a...

Volvo penta 5.0 OSI current drain

Agreed if the diodes in the alt are bad then it will pull current from the battery. Try disconnecting the alt and watch the meter.

Volvo Penta Sx-M 1.97 Gimbal bearing + Transom Seal

Agreed you need to replace the gimble housing, for sure, is your rebuilt motor already installed? Because getting at the mounting nuts on the inner transom plate can be very difficult (perhaps not impossible though) with the engine in place.

Replacement motor going in ,need opinions

Well you can do it that way, use it and see if you really notice the difference in power between the 2 engines. If so use it that way for a season and then get a set of Vortec heads and intake for the other engine. If that engine is original it might need the heads freshened up anyway. You're in...

    Surge brake

And if you have drum brakes I like to grease the adjuster threads with Evinrude triple guard grease and the same on the pivot points for the shoes. In addition there is a new design wheel cylinder being made by UPF. These are a bootless design that can’t trap water like the boot style. The boot...

    Starter rusting out Volvo Penta

You must be getting way too much water in the bilge, if you are rusting out starters. I have an ‘88 FW that’s been on a salt water mooring for 15+ years and I’ve never rusted out a starter except one year when a cooling hose popped off at the transom & flooded the bilge.

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

Firstly if the engine was already run in salt water you can't add a H/X because the cast iron flaking rust will just clog it continuously To accomplish what you want you can buy new, just get a new Vortec 5.7 and add the H/X in salt water use. I don't see any real advantage to aluminum heads on...

Replacement motor going in ,need opinions

Its easy enough to check, your 1988 pre vortecs have the 12 bolt intake, a 2003 will be a vortec 8 bolt intake. If your other engine is still good I think you're better off getting a 5.0 reman to match it.

Replacement motor going in ,need opinions

On your 1988 is the carb a Quadrajet? If so they use a well type choke which works with the pre-vortec just fine (these have an exhaust cross over in the intake to heat the choke & carb) but there is no exhaust cross over for the vortec heads/intake. So you'd have to either figure a way to...

    Quiet ticking noise

Ok yes read your first post too fast lol. You might then wind up having to re-adjust the travel on the hydraulic valve lifters. Its a little confusing at first but not hard if you take your time. The exhaust will have to come off to get clearance to remove the valve covers. I did mine when I did...
