    If it is in tip top shape $1000 is not that bad.----As stated taxes on a new one are very high.----And that 25 HP does not need $100 / hr shop support.-----The average person can learn how to maintain it without special tools.

    Basically you test parts that supply input to the CDI / switch box.----And easy to test coils.----Make for a simple decision on when switchbox / powerpack is good or not.

    You will like the performance of that boat with 2 sweet running 90 HP motors.----Or once motors have proved themselves you could look into making them into 115 HP each.

    It has been proven many times to me that folks know very little about maintaining their motors.----They invent new ways to destroy them almost every day.----Impellers are cheap and must be replaced on a regular basis.-----Many motors do not have overtemperature warning or shutdown...

    Open low speed mixture screws 1/8th turn at a time .----Perhaps the bogging will go away.

    How serviceable is a 1998 Yanmar diesel engine today?

    The diesel in my truck has about 5000 hrs.----So changing the lubricants on these marine engines and gear boxes.-----Filters.-----Water pump maintenance is all I would do.-----Are they closed cooling ?

    How serviceable is a 1998 Yanmar diesel engine today?

    The number of hrs on a diesel is a big factor.----Do you see hr meters on them ?----Would you be doing the work yourself ?-------Often times shops will say ---" sorry we do not work on old motors " ----Just because they do not see " easy money " when taking on this kind of work.

    Charge the battery.-----Have battery load tested.----Inspect battery cables.----Check connections are tight and +( red ) goes to + terminal.-----Take starter apart for inspection / cleaning / new brushes / ohm check on armature.-----Make sure battery is hooked up correctly.-----No $$$ beer...

    There is lots of oil on parts when a 2 stroke is stopped.----A shot of starting fluid will not hurt anything!----If you use it excessively then that is a different story.
