    After 1984 they went to 2 pawls.----As you have found one pawl is not hefty enuff.-----Also make sure rope is correct length to time the pulley !!-----The sheave is oval for a reason.

    Early motors used only 1 pawl.----A tough job for one pawl.-----So they went to 2 pawls.----Recoil was also mounted with rubber mounts so thar housing could flex and share load on the 2 pawls.-----I recommend you use 2 pawls, but it is up to you to act.

    Some outboards use special process to chrome plate the aluminum bores.----Some have nitrited steel bores.----You can not go wrong with plain cast iron bore engines.----Simplicity does work.-----Some cast iron sleeves are cast in place and must be machined out.

    Since 1964 Johnson / Evinrude run on 50:1 mix.-----If you want motor to last a few years more than a little extra oil is a good idea.

    Sleeves are made of QUALITY CAST IRON , and not steel.

    ????----You can bore out a cylinder by .5 mm or so and install a new .5 mm O/S piston and rings.------Or of big damage you remove the entire sleeve and install a new sleeve.-----Then bore that new sleeve to fit a standard piston / rings.-----I do not believe you could do this in your home work...

    No surprise on that scoring for me.-----Yes it is an aluminum block with a cast irom sleeve.-----That is how most outboards are made.

    Well----When folks say that they have " good spark " it means very little.-----A good magneto will produce up to 28,000 volts.----That will jump a gap of 5/16" with a snap you can hear.----Does your jump a gap of 5/16" , yes or no ?

    The factory kit comes with instructions.----Easy to follow instructions.------You can use screws ( heads cut off ) to make for " painless work " on re-assembly.----You always have the manual pump as a back up in case of a very rare failure of these simple pumps !

    Something is amiss.---Post pictures of interlock bar on starboard side of the motor.------I have never seen that throttle gear break.-----Let alone 3 times on the same motor.----Have you pulled the flywheel for inspection ???----Or perhaps time to visit a shop , if there is one that works on...
