    What motor ?---Serial #----What hoses ?---Describe your winterizing procedure.----If inboard you may have a cracked block , manifold or head.-----If inboard did you drain the water out of the block, yes or no ?

    Your carburetor uses a hot water choke.----Is that yours or the one you are buying.----Is the thermostat in place on your motor ?

    The service bulletin for this came out in 1994 !!!----The T in your line like was to supply water pressure to a gauge at the helm / steering station.-----I have those instructions.----But search online as many folks have found it that way !

    Different wording / mistake in the manual.------They used the hot air choke with electric solenoid.-----The 1968 model 55 HP used the thermo-electric choke.--Duel coil solenoid.----Choke would energize / close halfway with key turned to on.---When motor warmed up this choke opened up.

    Do yourself a favor.----Install the latest water pump repair kit 432955 !!----A factory kit comes with simple instructions.----If your motor is overheating you risk major damage to your motor.-----If fitting a repair kit is a hassle then , fitting a replacement motor is easy ?????

    There was no " thermo-electric choke " on 40 HP models between 1968 to 1970 !!!

    Correct----There was left over inventory in the mid 1980's that was marketed as COMMERCIAL models.----It was the left over , mid 1970's model with updated ignition.---Different choke / primer set-up-------What is the exact model # of the motor that you are getting the carburetor from ??

    Many newer 40 HP motors used 2 carburetors.-----No choke plates.----Different high speed jet. ----Different bore size.-----Shop carefully.----Many " sellers " are just that.----They have something to sell , they do not know what you need !!

    Is the condenser sweating ?-----Or is there an oil leak and these are oil droplets on those condensers ?

    There was a service bulletin that came out in 1994 to move the fitting to the top of the block !!----I suggest you look into the water pump kit that has the instructions to move it.---And other cooling system modification.---Part #432955 factory parts are best.

    The 12 year old is going to be very familiar with that simple 40 HP motor.-----Hopefully it will be seen on Burntstick Lake next summer.----Going to cost more on fuel to bring it there than what the motor and boat will be worth.

    Reversing Outboard output shaft rotation

    Agreed ----Bearings need to be beefed up to use the reverse ( opposite rotation ) gear with lefthand prop for forward motion !!
