    That was 20 years ago.----It was likely resolved and poster is no longer active.-----Start a new thread.-----Include all information you know and how the whisling started.----It could be due to no oil in gasoline or water pump failure !

    The primer valve puts fuel directly into the engine.----That fuel does not go into the carburetor bowls or through the metering circuits.---With the red lever in the wrong position motor will flood with fuel when running.

    The ----J90TSLECM---Is shown in the parts book as having a water cooled rectifier / regulator part # 585195.-----But who knows what is installed now.

    Stop guessing.-----Install a new impeller.-----Test run in the lake.-----Monitor engine temperature for 15 minutes !!

    Install a new impeller.----Test run in the lake.------Thermostats often fail in the OPEN position .----So check and make sure motor warms up.

    There likely is a blockage.-----Tell tale water comes off the exhaust housing and does NOT circulate through the engine.

    Do you see that part on your motor ?------Is it still the original powerhead ?-----Or the 88 HP model swapped in ?

    Thermostat has nothing to do with tell tale.----Water comes out of tell tale 3 seconds after starting.

    There you go , the fixed high speed jet is way inside behind that drain plug.-----3/16" diameter shank screwdriver may take it out.----Some one has installed a newer carburetor or carburetor bowl on your wonderfully simple motor !!------Some say ----" when the student is willing a teacher might...

    The hole beside the low speed mixture needle might be the vent for the carburetor bowl.----The high speed mixture needle / jet is found in the bottom of the carburetor bowl.

    I clearly stated that the fuel pump is on the side of the carburetor.----But you seem confused by this !

    That is what they call a ----phasemaker ----Ignition system.----Do you have spark that jumps a gap of at least 5/16" on both leads.-----Fuel pump is on the side of the carburetor.

    Post a picture of the bottom of the float bowl.---These are elegantly simple motors .----That if you have some patience to learn how to maintain them.-----Do a complete evaluation of this motor before spending any beer tokens on parts !

    There might be an issue with the water cooled rectifier / voltage regulator.----Top rear of the block , partially under the flywheel.
