    There are no idle mixture screws shown for a carburetor on 87 models.-----If it dies out gradually while idling it may be running lean.----Issues with reed valves ?----Are both carburetors throttle plates CLOSED at idle ?? bottom crankcase seal ??------Some trouble shooting required here.

    Evinrude 6hp gear shifter out of alignment

    One bolt should have been taken out to remove lower unit.----Then on assembly you line up the notch on shift rod before putting that bolt in.----If that does not correct it maybe Item 24 is cracked / broken.

    Yes I agree it is great stuff.-----But should something go wrong the repair bills ad up quickly.----And spare parts will be an issue with these specialized parts.-----Not an issue for folks who simply buy a new motor every 5 years or so.

    Well----1972 was the last year for electric shift.----Yours is oil pressure assisted mechanical shift.----Just use a quality outboard gear oil.----Any grease can be used on all other linkages / moving parts.

    The 5005801 is to be pushed in for the choke / electric primer function.---You just need to hook it up the correct way I think.----Those older control boxes are very good and rarely break / fall apart

    Perhaps the carburetor is flooding or motor is running on 1 cylinder.----Inspect fuel pump diaphragm too.
