    Idling

    Started an outboard motor the other day.-----Fuel was 3 years old.----Started on the second pull.----I would not consider that to be a " hard to start " issue.

    If there is power at your dock then those " ice eaters " will work.----Can be switched on should ice start to form.-----Folks use them all the time in much colder climates.-----Or compressed air bubblers work too.-----The warm water is at the bottom and these items bring warm water to the surface.

    Correct.----Pull it apart and check the pump impeller.-----Still too many folks who think you can run these things dry.

    Block sealant...in a raw water system

    Have you checked this block for internal cracks ???----I am not sure how that block behaves when frozen.------But you have to investigate.

    Some WINNER boats were built with a fiberglass structure under the floor.----The one WINNER I did 18' did have a wood transom.-------Wood transoms on that would be an easy fix with some ambition.------Therefor no wood stringers.----Not sure whether a 1971 model like pictured is built that...

    They say.-----A boat you buy takes about 10% of it purchase price to operate every year.-----Any qualified shops in that area?-----Plan to maintain overhaul the " go fast " engines yourself?----Priced fuel in your area?----Do you know how much fuel they take at 100 MPH ?

    Good eye on that difference of the pistons.----Been apart once before.-----All the more reason to shop for another motor !

    Cylinder Compression Incongruences.-

    Fact---Many gaskets are indeed porous!----Nature figures out a way for water to work / seep it's way through.-----Water then evaporates and leaves that white deposit.----Since there is no white next to the gasket , can there be any other explanation ?

    Many motor suffer this fate.----The way I see it is that motors today will start and run.---Then folks do not service them just because motor runs.-----Never consult a shop to grease the spline / maintain the water pump !

    E90TLESB - Son-In-Law's boat. Runs good but has to squirt Premix!

    Maybe the filter screen INSIDE the primer valve is plugged / partially plugged ?----This hard starting should be easy to figure out !

    Agreed with the above.---Post your compression numbers.-----What " work " has been done to the motor ?----Did the stalling issue present itself suddenly ?----Has water pump been serviced ?-----Mixing good oil at 50:1 on this motor.
