    Nope----A 2 stroke in good condition ( 2 to 200 HP ) will idle all day long.

    By the cowling it looks to be an 81 model.----Some will argue.-----Charge battery.----Load test battery.----Take starter apart and inspect.----Do ohm check on armature.------If ohms check good the assemble and test for spark.----No coins spent doing this investigation.

    The ----" brass plug " ----Is an expensive check valve.----It is press fit in place.-----Depending on how many hours on the pistons it is not a good idea to put new rings on older factory pistons.---Simple as that !

    When loading I put rear roller so it is submerged.-----That centers the boat every time.-----Then if effort on crank handle increases I back the trailer in more as needed.

    Find the 2 small black wires that go under the flywheel.----They are usually connected to a stop switch.----The circuit is CLOSED to stop the motor.-----

    That year was when OMC was in " turmoil mode ".-----May not have printed a service manual.,----Use the nearest equivalent.----Not a lot of changes from year to year in that era.

    ???----Leave that hole alone !!----It was put there by the factory.------Look the block over carefully to see what the purpose is for this hole.----Work carefully on your rebuilding.-----Assumptions / mistakes can be costly.-----And I do not like that black sealer used on the crankcase half...

    All use the same prop.-----Small hub for large boats.------Prop spins very fast so 10" is a big change.

    Oil is mixed with the gas before the fuel goes into the carburetors.----Have oil pump output checked as per the procedure in the manual.----Post compression test numbers.----May simply require the low speed mixture screws to be adjusted.----Installed a new impeller recently ??----Tested your...

    No money spent testing for you.-----Have battery load tested ( even if new ) a free service at many automotive stores.-----Take starter apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.-----Inspect battery cables.

    Use ---west system --6-10-----Epoxy mixes as it comes out of the tube.-----Not expensive and is injected with caulking gun.

    A GT 175 should be a bubble back.-----With big bore pistons.----A GT 175 is different.-----Have one myself for parts / rebuild.----Also has to do with propshaft rating / marketing.-----They did have to get rid of many parts in the warehouse in those years too.

    Well------I could rebuild your motor powerhead and lower unit without glancing at a manual.-----So do not make any assumptions.---Check the fuel pump diaphragm !!!

    Not uncommon to buy an " issue motor " these days.----Put away your axe.-----Stop replacing parts.---Start some orderly trouble shooting.-----These motors in good condition run very well indeed.
