    There are those people who would rather change a 59 cent pin instead of a prop that my be a bit pricy.----But yes a steel drive pin is what it uses.----Why not trouble shoot to get that motor idling as designed !

    Reeds are actually allowed to be open a wee bit ( up to 0.007" ) and still work fine

    ???-------But the primer puts fuel into the motor.----This fuel bypasses the metering circuits that are inside the carburetor !----Blunt statement on my part.----Do not guess and assume when trouble shooting.----Learn how things work and repair as needed.

    As stated it is a THROTTLE only lever.----

    Fact----These are elegantly simple motors.-----There is a lot you can do yourself.----Many videos available too.-----First is a compression test.----Post your numbers.----Then check spark , it must jump a gap of 1/4" or more on both leads.-----My bet is that this motor is running on 1 cylinder.

    Step # 1 would be to have a look inside the carburetor.----Also inspect fuel pump diaphragm.

    Motors are not ---" all the same "-----The 25" V-4 and V-6 use a different lower unit as an example.----Perhaps a different midsection / exhaust housing too..----

    Why don't I see more jet motors?

    Agreed----Huge power loss in the jet pump.---EG-150 HP outboard is rated 105 HP to compensate and reduce complaints to the dealers.

    1984 50hp Evinrude Overheating

    You can get into issues when lower units from different years are installed.--------Some used a woodruff key.----Some a round stainless pin.----And some used a plastic " wedge " key.-----Helps to know what is there and what years fit what.

    Gear oil coming out of the weep hole

    Oil that is mixed with the gas often leaks out of the exhaust housing.-----Causes great panic.-----The correct approach is to pressure test the gearcase to look for possible leaking seals.----And on a 45 year old motor it is a good idea to install a seal kit for peace of mind.-----Less trouble...

    Final Straw.

    The factory went to great effort to set all the linkages.------These things generally do not go out of adjustment.----Yet many folks use the ---" I will try to move this and see if it runs better " ---approach .-----Instead of some real trouble shooting.----Sorry, just my opinion.

    Old outboards typically sell for $50 or so.----There are actually many that have survived.

    Chips in the gel coat on hull. Is it an issue?

    You mix up a wee batch -----make notes on the amount of color added.----Let it cure and see how it matches the hull.----When you are happy start the patching on the hull.

    8hp starts but runs only at high rpms

    There are very small passage ways in 4 stroke carburetors.----Often it takes a novice 3 or 4 attempts at cleaning to get the desired results.----Always store the motor with carburetor empty.----An empty carburetor does not plug up.

    Which Oil??? - Mercruiser Power Trim Pump - SAE J1171 Marine

    Many of those simply used #30 weight motor oil.----Nothing exotic is needed.
