    It would be rare for the 2 cylinder 50 to have a broken crank.---Your description in post #1 sure points to a loose nut / sheared key scenario.------But you right it might be a broken crankshaft.

    Well----Likely the key is sheared.-----Need a new factory key.----Assemble clean / dry and no lube.---Torque nut to 85 FT-LBS.-----Some folks have been tempted and put grease on the tapers.----Big mistake that.

    Provide more information.-----Was lower unit off for pump work ?----New to you motor?----It is not fully shifting on the trailer ! Lower unit might have to be removed to line up shift shafts properly.----I am not there to see the simple issue.----Provide information.
