    OMC Bad Gas

I'll check this out this week. That's where I was thinking water came in, the vent is in on the starboard side near the stern and this boat sits pretty low in the back, wouldn't take too much of a wave to get up near the vent. Any suggestion on how to dispose of 15 gallons of bad fuel? Should I...

    OMC Bad Gas

So this is what I decided to get. Gonna try polishing the fuel and burning it in my truck. Next will be figuring out how the hell do much water got into the tank

    OMC Bad Gas

Thanks I like the idea of polishing the fuel, I'm thinking I can park my truck next to the boat, run a line from the tank, through a water sperating filter and into my truck. Any recommendations on what to use to pump the fuel? I got almost a full tank, probably like 15 gallons unfortunately. I...

    OMC Bad Gas

So I'm having some issues with a friend's boat that I'm wrenching on. Ran great I'm the driveway on muffs took it to the lake and it idled fine, then I put it in gear, that went fine, but once I start to throttle up it dies. Diagnosed a bad coil, resistance in the primary was 0 ohms. Carb is...

1976 Chrysler 105 running rough immediately after adjusting carbs on the water.

Since it was running well until you adjusted the idle mix, and then you also adjusted the idle speed, I would suggest redoing this the correct way. You need an accurate tachometer to do this correctly. First set your idle speed according to your service manual. If your manual recommends 700 rpm...

    Starter Slave Solenoid?

Before replacing the part I would make sure voltage is getting to the slave selenoid. Use a multimeter and test for voltage at the selenoid. When the key is turned to the crank position, if you have 12+ volts at the correct post on the selenoid and the selenoid does not 'click' and activate the...

    1971 Mercury inline 6 135 hp motor

Need more info. What's the history on this motor? What are the compression numbers? You verified all the plug leads are delivering a spark that can jump 3/8"? How did you determine this is not a fuel issue? We can't help you if you've got compression spark and fuel. We need you to not have one...

    Won't start.

Next time this problem occurs take your multimeter and get under the dash and test for voltage at the ignition switch. If it's zero look around and see if the wire has been spliced by someone under the dash. I see this often when helping friends with boats, under dash wiring is sometimes a...

    No spark

Try swapping coils around and see if I spark condition follows a bad coil

Four wings omc 4.3 wont start

You need to get a voltmeter or multimeter so you can test the voltage and resistance at different places in the circuit. Then you can begin to fix this problem. Sounds to me like you replaced the coil with an internal resistance coil but you can probably make it work by removing the resistance...

    Volvo Penta 4.3GL Power cycle

I had an old V4 Johnson outboard that did this a long time ago. In my case I figured out I was having an intermittent spark issue. Sounds like your whole ignition system is new but I'd go through the manual and step by step verify each component is working properly. Start by checking spark plug...

Mercruiser 3.0 only stays running with key engaged?

I don't know about N.C. switches but I'm assuming it grounds the ignition coil, right? If it was active, he wouldn't have been able to run the motor by hotwiring 12v to the coil (which he did). Maybe I'm misunderstanding how N.C. Killswitch works. I wrench on an omc I/o so this is unfamiliar...

Mercruiser 3.0 only stays running with key engaged?

Yes, I would get my power from the starter selenoid, make sure you're on the right post, should get 12v without cranking. Starter selenoid to ballast resistor to positive post of coil.

    1973 Johnson V4 cylinder 1 overheating

Oof I thought I read this in my manual but I went back and double checked when you said that and dont see anything about blowing air into the cooling system. I probably read that for cleaning out fuel lines and filters. So I'd hafta say this came from my brain, not the manual and so I can't...

On the water help please. Non emergency.

You say runs rough under load, is this at both high speed and slow speed? Not a whole lot you can do on the water. I'd try verifying idle mix set correctly. Procedure for this is to turn screw inward until rpms drop due to lean condition, them turn outward until rpms drop due to rich...

1989 2.3l TKO. What does "TKO" mean?

I can't seem to find any reference to it in my service manual and amazingly google has not lead me to any explanations of this mysterious abbreviation. Anyone able to enlighten me?
