    Biggest thing I'd be concerned about is a situation where you have to stop quickly (e.g., kid on a bike darting in front of you); that could be a problem. Otherwise, for that short of a trip you should be OK.

    I think in Wisconsin, trailers don't have to be titled if the boat+trailer is 3000 pounds or less. I live in Illinois and I almost bought a WI boat when first looking for one, and the non-titled trailer caused me to look elsewhere. (That, plus the fact that there were issues with the boat.)

    I would add that if one is to get drum brakes, the Nevr-Adjust type are particularly nice. No adjustment needed as the break shoes wear.

    Seems like it would be a lot easier and stronger if you just laid new fiberglass, rather than reusing the old piece.

    If not boating in saltwater, adding electric brakes would be a snap. A number of online trailer vendors sell complete kits that would make adding electric brakes quite easy. You have the square mounting brackets, so it would be a pretty simple bolt-on procedure.

    Yeah, it sounds like payload isn't your problem. I'd be looking at whether you have a class III or IV hitch.

    In addition to your tongue weight, what is the payload weight in the truck (including passengers)? Lots of light duty trucks run out of payload capacity (e.g., tongue weight plus gear in truck plus passengers weight) before they exceed towing capacity.

    For a part as important as bellows, and for one as difficulty to replace, I cannot imagine using anything other than Quicksilver/Mercruiser.

    I keep mine in the boat, on a NOCO maintainer all winter. If a battery is going bad, I'll figure it out soon enough come Spring, and in the meantime I won't have a frozen battery and battery acid in bilge.

    When tearing up the floor in my boat, the foam on top was nice and dry. The stuff down near the hull was wet and soaked. You really want to investigate the foam and stringer near the hull, not near the deck. Good luck!
