1984 Mercruiser GM 350 engine no start, not even trying to fire

Will check the compression in a few days. It has electronic ignition, no points. So is this a standard rotation engine? Distributor turns CCW

1984 Mercruiser GM 350 engine no start, not even trying to fire

Beginning to wonder if valves are stuck open. Engine is portside, so should be standard rotation. Distributor turns CCW, is that correct? And what is the firing order? 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 ? What is compression range for GM 350 MCIE 260 Mercruiser? What is the spark timing? I pulled wires and took...

MerCruiser 260 Flame arrestor fitment with a bracket?

Spent time on this engine today solving a quadrajet carb that refused to stop flooding, the float was jambing against the tower, had to spread the arms wider, not it is solved. What a pain. It also has a jambing accelerator pump, it sticks in the down position. We put in a new one it still...

    Carburetor Issues, Dripping Carbs...

Mechanical pumps limit their fuel pump pressure by the spring that forces the diaphragm closed. Really they dont over pressurize the fuel simply by the way they are made. Electric pumps that spin may over pressurize the fuel.

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

There is something called exhaust reversion where engine exhaust sucks back into the motor while the engine is running. That temporary suction, reverse flow, always pulls some wet exhaust back towards the cylinders when the engine is running. That may seem like a myth to you, that exhaust...

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

I have submerged rusty cast iron in regular white vinegar and after a week, it dissolves a lot of even thick rust. Helps too if the vinegar is hot. I cleaned up badly packed in rust on an Onan MCCK cylinder head, it got it all out of the passages with some time. I left them in a cooler of white...

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

I concur, not too bad at all. There is hot exhaust and lots of salty water vapor, and that will condense on the inside of the manifolds, and it will rust like that, even further back inside like the first set of pics.

MerCruiser 260 Flame arrestor fitment with a bracket?

The way it currently sits, the snorkel faces towards bow. The valve covers have short rubber tubes that run into the side holes, so if it was flipped so the snorkel faced aft, the hoses would not fit, AFAIK, might then need new ones. On the valve cover, one hose is aft, and other bow, to turn...

MerCruiser 260 Flame arrestor fitment with a bracket?

We can't figure out how the bracket matches up to the top cover within which is the flame arrestor. No orientation puts the rubber bumper into what looks like the support hole. Twin 350 V8 engines in a 28 Tiara Pursuit mid 80's model boat. The angled bracket is bolted on to the throttle cable...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

Wired that way by factory or whoever installed the charger decades ago. That Raritan charger is also a power supply. Has 8 gauge wires running to the buss, one buss for each engine under the helm. The bilge pumps are on the battery lug of the rotary switch and cant be turned off. Not planning to...

Stringer rot and Partial floor replacement

Can you replace the boat with another for the cost of the repair? Or not much more. Make sure another one has no rot, get someone to do a hull survey to look for those things? Is it worth spending that much on it? Another consideration, lost time... while your fixing the boat. Which you also...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

This is a big negatory comment about these chargers, they shut down. I read the Victron starts over on the charge cycle when power is turned off then back on, it is supposed to detect SOC, and shorten charging phases as appropriate. So what will happen, I unplug from dock, turn on gen, it will...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

I decided to get a new smart charger, I bought the Victron IP22 30 amp 3 bank charger. It does 4 stages, the last one they call storage is at 13.2v I think this will help prevent the new batteries from failing as quick as all the others fail...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

I looked into those, the comments were the charger shuts down, so cant be used as a power supply, anyhow some people did not like what they did. I may get a Victron IP22 20 amp 3 bank charger for under $200. Can be used as a power supply. I am going to wait and think about these chargers.

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

My old Raritan charger is a converter-charger. It has enough power to use 12v devices even if battery is not hooked up. It does have a simple feedback regulation circuit. It is set to about 13.8v, but I have noticed various banks can get more volts, like upto to 14.8. It seems to depend on what...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

yes, it is an older charger. For now, I am going to disconnect the starter battery by turning it's rotary switch to off. But I also know I will forget to turn it off after using the boat. I used to think let the charger just charge all the time, but you dont do that to your car start battery, so...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

I was attempting to relate an ACR like device to what I wanted to do, because people are familiar with them, but I dont know how many kinds of ACR things exist. I thought maybe some kind of an ACR would exist that could do this. This would be an ACR that would connect below 12.45 or so, and...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

Everyone is missing this, I am talking about an AC plugged in charger, not an alternator run off an engine where you might use an ACR. The AC charger runs all time charging the battery, heats it up and slowly but steadily cooks out the water eventually destroys the battery. There is no need to...

Does ACR exist to charge start battery bank only if the volts drop below 12.45?

The 'charge relay' I want to use does not exist yet. There is absolutely no point to leaving a starter bank on the charger all the time. If your battery drains itself down not being constantly charging, then your battery is bad.
