    Bilge Pumps Not Working

If the boat fills with too much water, it is going down. Boats can sink at the worst times when other things may be going wrong, and it will overwhelm your ability to bail out the water. Then the costs of the sinking can be catastrophic life, limb, dollars. So bilge pump systems are no joke.

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

How to Calculate Actual Bilge Pump Capacity A 1-inch hole below the waterline of your boat could allow over 1,000 gallons of water per hour to pour into the hull. So if a thru-hull fitting fails, you could have a fatal amount of water entering your boat...

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

And when you raise the hose, you lose flow volume of gph. So to compensate for it, install a large pump.

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

And the discharge hose needs to rise up high enough to prevent back flowing, as in sea-lake water flowing back into boat through the hose. 18 inches maybe. See if your boat is taking on water, it goes to low, it will take on a lot more water through the bilge pump hose. Pump may quit pumping...

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

Bilge pump switches fail more often than pumps, but pumps also fail, the seals leak in water. I have had good experiences with the Johnson bilge pump switch 36152. I have a Rule 3700 running on it now even though switch is rated to 15 amps. The float is not mechanically connected to the switch...

oil pressure sending units dual station SW gauges, exists any single station sender can work?

Have not had time to figure out the failure yet. Makes sense if water got in, the resistance would drop and the gauge read higher. The gauge still responds to engine speed, moving up with revs. It won't last long if water got inside the unit. I could take it off engine and see if wet, could be...

Bilge pump switch experiences, good and bad

I have found so far just one switch seems fairly reliable the Johnson Pump 36152 Electro Magnetic Float Switch 12V, 15A. I have 2, bought another yesterday. I like the design better as it has no moving parts into the electronics. My experiences have been rather negative with pump switches...

oil pressure sending units dual station SW gauges, exists any single station sender can work?

Its the typical 80 psi gauges So there are 4 oil psi gauges There are 2 helms There are 2 engines. I have a mechanical gauge on the remote oil filter housing both engines. I was wondering if you could use the cheaper sender for dual stations doing some modifications to the wiring, adding...

oil pressure sending units dual station SW gauges, exists any single station sender can work?

Checking prices on senders, all typical dual station are twice the prices. And I think I need 2 senders as I have 2 engines What sender numbers will work or what senders can be made to work with some electric mods. Found a PDF on various ohms of senders...

Velvet drive 72c with gear reduction submerged. Will water get into it?

Started up starboard engine. Engine fine, trans runs fine. Oil not milky. Trans even though submerged did not leak in any water. It has a small vent on top with a loose cap and somehow it worked well to keep out the water. Can't imagine it has a spring pressure valve in there, anyone know? A...

1991 pcm nautique not able to crank after major flooding from carb

Try crank with coil wire grounded to rule out advanced timing.

Velvet drive 72c with gear reduction submerged. Will water get into it?

Pulled dipsticks today on both trans and level was perfect. Oil is clear. Next few days will run motors and put into gear and see if fluid stays clear. I drained 5 gallons of river water from both engines, sucked water from cylinders using a vacuum, and sprayed in PB Blaster. Today cranked over...

Velvet drive 72c with gear reduction submerged. Will water get into it?

Yes, does have a side hose cooler line. It is an inline, and the older rear bearing style from 1970. Fill is an actual large pipe plug with a dipstick attached Has a 2.9 to 1 type gear reduction unit. With trans angles down due to engine angle, does a drain get out most of the water?

Velvet drive 72c with gear reduction submerged. Will water get into it?

It was totally submerged for a day. If water gets in, can I suck it out thru the large fill plug? What oil and how much for these trans?

fuel pump 260 hp 350 mercruiser

Yes, that is a good deal there. Made outside the US or not. Here a Carter pump says on the box, made in China https://classicbroncos.com/forums/threads/carter-fuel-pump-made-in-china.305483/

GM 350, Mercruiser MIE 260, the spark coil arcs over to the coil nuts a lot

Engine runs smoothly. Maybe the plugs wires have too high resistance, worn out? Engine has new NGK plugs. The arc over was reduced by 90% after I wrapped electric tape around the coil top many times. I have had cap off and rotor and cap looks good inside. That spark jump is around an inch long...

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

You can just use the gasket. But people also do put some sealer on a gasket, like RTV, or liquid to make sure gasket stays sealed. etc... https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-80062-High-Gasket-Sealant/dp/B000HBGHB8 an advantage it keeps gasket from slipping when attaching back the pump. Tacky...

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

Timing firing of the spark plugs could be a messed up chaos, if you dont put distributor back in the way it came out, into the same position. Most mechanically minded people can fix that without much troubles. Definitely add oil to engine before going out if needed.
