After 2 failed Pertronix ignitors, I put in points and it runs again

I don't have a dwell meter, I don't rev the motors high. I think if your are pushing your motors hard, stuff like that is more of an issue. I typically cruise around at low RPM of about 1500.

After 2 failed Pertronix ignitors, I put in points and it runs again

I talked with Speedway Motors, apparently this was an open box return they had clearanced. So they refunded me the entire amount $100, and gave me a UPS shipping label. They agreed since it was an earlier return, it was probably defective. So did not have to deal with Pertronix. I actually...

After dropping exhaust manifold to replace starter, I forgot to turn the raw water valve back on!

Motor started and its running, don't notice anything off. After a few minutes looking at temp gauges it was running higher than normal. Then I saw the exhaust was blowing bluish smoke, and I though what is wrong now. Then it hit me, forgot to open the valve. The smoke was exhaust gas burning...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

I was wondering if you have a larger old boat to dispose of, if you owned some land, a crane could pick it up, take it to your place, then you cut it up yourself. The way to deal with something big is one bite at a time. Might even be cheaper to buy some land and DIY the disposal, if it is possible.

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

Something boat buyers don't really think of, the potential large liability cost of ownership when the boat ages, you can't sell it, no one wants it. Larger boats apparently can have high end of life costs, just like people! I used to have a trailer boat, when It got old and no one wanted it...

Of these two Delco engine starters, which one is more powerful or are they the same?

It definitely IS a high torque starter now. It cranks that motor much faster. I noticed immediately first crank Makes me want the same high torque for the other port engine. I always thought these engines lacked cranking speed when starting.

After 2 failed Pertronix ignitors, I put in points and it runs again

was nice that with the points, the timing was about the same as with pertronix. I had to retard a little as the idle was too high.

After 2 failed Pertronix ignitors, I put in points and it runs again

First Ignitor I did last over 10 years. Then went to start up and nothing. Discovered had no spark. So few days ago, I bought a replacement Ignitor II, worked about 15 minutes then dead, no spark. Reconnected wires, It worked, left for the day. Today went to boat, no spark Ignitor II is dead...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

Everything has a lifespan, how much money to do that? I have heard it is expensize. A steel sailboat sunk in a deep slip of 25 feet or so, I think was Fort Monroe, VA, and 15 years ago the cost was $12000 to raise it and tow to a marina. I drove over there couple days ago and it took a few...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

I am talking of sizes not trailer-able. Like 35 to 50 foot boats? Boats all get old enough eventually they are no longer usable.

Of these two Delco engine starters, which one is more powerful or are they the same?

I know that, the old blue starter has worked fine for couple decades. I cleaned up the black starter and am painting with some bright colored paint I have here. This is a dual engine boat. It mounts under the exhaust manifold, meaning it has to be removed to remove starter. And the battery box...

Of these two Delco engine starters, which one is more powerful or are they the same?

Of course I agree, except why spend the money, as in extra couple hundred, if I got a working one? Black starter came from a friends boat. I replaced it for him, and he let me have the old starter, which needed new brushes. And brushes were cheap so a year ago, I repaired for a backup.

Of these two Delco engine starters, which one is more powerful or are they the same?

It is a 10MT starter design Well according to here , the blue is low torque, the black high torque. Anyone concur? How much higher torque? http://rmcavoy.freeshell.org/starters.html The regular "low torque" version of the 10MT motor has the solenoid screwed directly to the metal strap leading...

Of these two Delco engine starters, which one is more powerful or are they the same?

Both marine starters. Same rotation. Black one off a MerCruiser 260 inboard 1980's Blue one from an IH 392 1970 I rebuilt the black one as a backup The blue one got wet and needs to be cleaned up inside to work again. They have a different shape on the housing for the armature...

Repaired an electric Facet fuel pump 40288 check valve which is why it quit pumping, no lift left

Today, installed the repaired pump and it worked, drew fuel up from tank. Seeing how if your fuel pump decides to quit on you at any moment, have a backup ready to go. I blame ethanol fuel for fuel system rust and seal swelling, and you know I am right. Ethanol fuel damages pumps even if made...

Repaired an electric Facet fuel pump 40288 check valve which is why it quit pumping, no lift left

I also ordered a 40109 which is bigger and better IMO than the 40288. Pump would not prime itself. The builtin check valve failed. It must be perfect or it leaks back on every throw of the plunger. Unscrew the long nut on the inlet. Inside is a brass - rubber check valve with tiny spring which...

    Ford 302 distributor

I will tell you that the Holley distributor for my IH 392 Palmer marinized engine, is the same as the one used in truck engines. There was no difference. Maybe a Delco that has a metal window shutter to adjust dwell could be considered not sealed. AND for an engine in a car running at high revs...

    Ford 302 distributor

Sure the advamce curve will not be the same, but in an engine running at hign revs, it does not advanc the timing What's going to blow up exactly? The cap is a tight fit and not vented.
