    You may have a bad/rotten transom that is flexing under forward thrust if tightening the loose nuts did not help. However it is possible that the rubber transom seal is bad and needs to be replaced.

    You might try something like a curved dental pick taped to a dowel rod. Reach it up in there and try to break up any old grease. An occasional spray of brake fluid to further break things up and flush it out.

    There is Volvo Silver and Volvo Gray. They are both very close in hue, with the silver being a little shinier. Your original color is probably gray but you could do either and get by.

    I had my pivot housing removes when I removed mine but I think you may be able to access it from underneath with the trim extended and the drive up. Remember to put some underwater grease on the threads of the new one to make it easier to remove next time.

    Waterpump HELP

    The snap ring holds the bearing in place and is not really visible unless the pump has been removed, have you removed the pump from the block? I bet your pump has or should have one.

    I suggest that you consider a closed cell type of insulation with a reflective outside layer. The eggshell insulation breaks down overtime and can clog your spark arrestor. It comes with adhesive already applied, just peel and stick.

    I say pay the bill and learn from your previous owners mistakes. Pull that drive regularly and grease everything up well.

    If you are not going to use the drive until next year, you could leave the wrong oil in there until next spring then replace it with the proper lube. Just make sure that you do not leave the oil that you used this year in there, just in case there is water inside.
