    under powered mercury 125 / 2 stroke

That is a 2+2 motor so it idles on the top two until 1800 rpm then the bottom 2 cylinders come in. Need a factory manual to set this motor up correctly.

    97 Johnson 50hp 3cyl - idle problem

Your motor has decompression holes, 110 is not that bad for your motor. I would look at the quick start and for any broken or worn linkages.

    1975 evinrude 15504C engine cover...argh!

If it does not have lube in it and has been sitting a while, the tranny fluid will help lube and clean it. That's why you let it sit a couple days. IF it had lube in it should be fine. BUT if the shift rod is stuck in the bushing, then tranny fluid can help lube it.

    1975 evinrude 15504C engine cover...argh!

The prop has to be moving to shift properly. Also take the lower unit to see if that frees up the shift handle. If it does the problem is in the gear case. Does the gear case have lube in it? If not fill it with tyranny fluid and let it sit a couple days.

9.9 Evinrude - Hard Start when warm , but starts fine when cold

The fuel pump has no effect on starting the motor uses what is in the carb bowl already. If the fuel ball pumps up firm probably do not have a leak in the line.
