Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

The tilt and trim relays are CLEARLY highlighted in post #35. They are INSIDE the box. Hint they are the 2 curly cues in the yellow highlighted section. 1 is up and one is down. Clearly you are not the guy who gets handed the Fluke at work.

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

Hey Boscoe when you learn how to read a wiring diagram let me know. It clearly shows 2 relays in the wiring diagram YOU put up. Just because they are in a box and you can't see them doesn't mean there is only one. There is one box containing 2 relays. Post #31 you clearly state 2 relays in one...

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

Hey if you two want to be parts replacers that's fine. But don't get snippy at me because I prefer to diagnose things. What's wrong with testing the motor? What if the pump is the problem? How do you know it doesn't have a broken wire? Could be a $2 part. So you just told the Op to buy a motor ...

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

You are just mad because I disagreed with your approach of throwing parts at it. Wiring diagram shows 2 relays so am I really that wrong?

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

How do you know it is not a simple fix? But I guess it is easier to tell someone to replace it when it is not your money. Those are not cheap motors and the ones that are won't be worth installing.

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

If you have a bad brush or broken wire how does your test find that? I guess it is just simpler to throw a new motor on. A brush or broken wire is significantly cheaper to fix than replacing the motor. DC motors can be tested but I guess why bother!!!

It needs to go on the opposite side of the post on the recoil. It should push the red arm away from the recoil. As the throttle advances it will push the red arm into the recoil.

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

How do you know it was a good ground? The relay clicks but the motor doesn't even try to turn? Are you there next to him if so I apologize. I just know most electrical issues can be caused by a bad ground. As far as hooking up jumper cables was it done correctly? Just a suggestion for him to...

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

I am sorry I read that at 2021. Do you have a manual for your motor? How many relays are on it for the T/N/T.

Are Tohatsu/Merc Motors Over Propped ?

Mine is a real Merc 25. The same motor that was put on many fiberglass Lakeland boats and never had a problem. Yamaha never made a Merc 25 Tohatsu did. It's not that uncommon for the smaller 4 strks to be down on power.

Are Tohatsu/Merc Motors Over Propped ?

My 2 strk 25 hp merc spins a 13" pitch prop to 6000 on light hulls. 2 strk Evinrude the same. Something is suspect on the power rating or an over geared lower unit.

    150 Johnson rod bearings snapping

What is the model # of your motor? My guess is you did not keep the caps and rods together. Since they are broken caps they are pair, rods and caps stay together. The bearings should interchange between rods , not the best practice but it will work. Does your motor have Crank rings? Are they in...

Are Tohatsu/Merc Motors Over Propped ?

I would question the rating on the motor if a 25 hp struggles to turn a 13" pitch prop.
