Can you check compression on a cold outboard?

Pay attention to the #1 cylinder and check for spark before anything. That is an early OIS system and did not have the best quality optical eyes in them. And keep the starter turning until the needle stops on the gauge.

Question about LU rebuild + getting ripped off on sale.

So take it to a mechanic and have the lower resealed and pass the receipt with the sale. Tell the buyer to pound sand because he is trying to screw you. He will spend $400 on the reseal and pocket the $3600 he saved. Do not sell people like that anything you will never be rid of him!!!

70 HP vs 90 HP Evinrude: Which to Buy?

I am not the guy who is going to tell you to overpower your boat. But a 70 hp propped right will pull a wakeboard or tube.

    Johnson Kill switch

The screws should be relatively easy to remove. If you want to get the heads off of the screws just drill them. Use a slightly larger than 1/4" drill bit and drill the heads off. Then when you split the box there should be a nub sticking out you can grab with a vise grisp.

    Motor opinion

The OMC v6s can sit around 90 psi and be a healthy motor. And that's not even getting into decompression holes. So no the 100 psi rule is kinda outdated.

100 psi is a general # given out for 2 strks that works with some and not others.

Update on my electric fuel pump installation.

I am sorry why should we not be finding out what is wrong with the motor. I have worked on probably 50 of the 2+2 motors and have never had to add an electric fuel pump to make it start correctly.

1995 Mercury 20HP what years are compatible?

Look at the driveshaft splines on top and Base gasket pretty sure they are the same through most yrs. If you find a whole motor a powerhead swap is simple. If you find one off of a pontoon boat you can also get electric start.
