    Model / serial # of your motor ?----Driveshaft may not be available unless you find one used on " fleabay " -----and it might require lower unit teardown to replace it.----Get your money back.

    Strange that the 3 cylinder 50 appears to have a different set-up then the 3 cylinder 70 HP models.----Same block and all.----The 3 cylinder 70 has used the hitch pin method from about 1988 or so.

    My mistake.----That year 3 cylinder 50 HP may be the exception.----Remove starter motor.----Have your assistant slowly put it in forward.-----Turn prop with your foot.-----You should then see the pin to take out

    That ground has nothing to do with the starter motor.----Check the one wee wire from solenoid to a ground on the block.----Yes there is a ground there and about 4" long if I recall.

    If the carburetor is full it should start and run for say 15 / 20 seconds till it is empty.----In those 20 seconds the simple fuel tank should be pressurized to keep fuel going to the motor.-----The primes on the tank does NOT put pressure on the tank.

    Simple hard fact for you.----They marketed a 28 HP in 1962 / 1963 / 1964.------No other 28 HP models are compatible !!

    Where did the powerhead come from ??------Model # is??----I would pull off a cylinder head for inspection.-----A head gasket is cheaper than all the work / parts tossed at it so far !!----Possibly carburetor bowls are warped ?-----You did not mention water pump impeller , is it new ??

    There are 3 bolts / mounts that hold cowling to the engine.----There are 6 bolts under the block to remove the powerhead.----I am not sure you are going about this the right way.

    You could have some wires mixed up.---I believe wires and switch box are clearly marked / identified.----You are pushing the key in and holding it in while cranking it over I hope.
