Redoing a Starcraft Islander transom using Coosa board.

Ok,thank you all. I guess that takes me back to the drawing board. Oh well, Launch opens in April so there is no hurry. I will open a wooden transom page.

    1989 OMC Cobra exhaust seal

All this talk about bad bat wings made me wonder a bit. There are exhaust seals/flaps that are supposed to stop the water from rushing up into the engine. My engine has the bat wings, but I never had a problem. So today I opened up the exhaust and checked the exhaust flaps. They are both...

Pink Super Tech (Walmart) -50 RV and Marine ok for engine?? I always thought NO...??

The problem with that stuff is that it is very sweet and dogs love to lick it of the ground. And then the dogs die.

Redoing a Starcraft Islander transom using Coosa board.

The Islander is 8 feet wide on the top and it is (if I remember correctly) a bit over 3 feet deep at its center. The marine 3/4 inch plywood is 10 or 12 ply so the 1.5 inch will give at least 20 ply. I guess I'll go that way. I was under the impression that Coosa does not need any treatment...

Redoing a Starcraft Islander transom using Coosa board.

Thank you for your answer, you certainly gave me food for thought. My Starcraft Islander is aluminum. A 1.5 inch 4by8 26 grade is $582 before shipping , it weighs 120 pounds, but according to AI gluing 2 3/4 inch pieces together makes a stronger board. However, my boat has an I/O so transom...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

It just occurred to me that you did not inspect the exhaust flaps.

Redoing a Starcraft Islander transom using Coosa board.

This summer I had my boat in a slip instead of always towing it and I love it. At the same time it made me anxious about humidity and wood rotting. When I installed the current transom it was in the middle of covid and I was taking care of my wife ( she passed away). The work was not properly...

OMC 4.3 V6 dry joint "batwing" conversion exhaust kit

Somewhere in these pages there is a comment made by Bondo about mixing Mercruiser and OMC/ Volvo parts. He does not think that it is a good idea. I would go with Bondo's opinion on anything having to do with engines

changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carburetor

I am not overly concerned about the cost. After all, a shroud has no pockets. What is holding me back at this point is removing everything on top of the manifold then replacing the manifold and after that is done, reinstalling everything. That takes quite a bit of time and with the winter coming...

    Asian Lady Beetles in boat

Get a large bottle of rubbing alcohol and pour it on a plate situated under the cover of the boat. The alcohol fumes will penetrate the tracheol system of the insects. It will cause dehydration and dissolving of the chitinous layers of the bugs and they will die. It will only work if it is still...

Help choosing an older cruiser - 1993 Chris Craft Crown 262 or 1995 Rinker 265 Fiesta Vee

Lou is completely right. Don't touch those two. Neither facebook nor Craigs list will give you the info you need. You should take a walk in the marina and talk to small time professional fishing boat owners about their rigs. they can probably tell you what not to buy. You are in salt water , so...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

It seems to me that you have now pinpointed the crucial difference which is causing the engine problems. The fuel in your tank has been in your possession for 15 months and because it was stabilized it probably did not stink. But you do not know how old it really is and gas only stinks when it...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

One final question. Is the fuel in the main tank and the fuel in the portable tank from the same gas station?

    Fuel starvation conundrum

I just went into the maintenance guide for the 1988 4.3 liter omc and just fir you to double check, here are some numbers. The sparkplug : AC (delco) MR43T with a gap of 0.035 inch Breaker Points: Dwell (degrees)39+/-2 Gap 0.019 Fuel : RON 93 Timing : 6BTCD The reason why I wrote this down, is...

Looking for pistons, rings and gasket set for 1958-9 Johnson 5.5

I have had very good luck with "Magical Mystery Oil. Pour some in the cylinders and let it sit overnight. I will more likely than not loosen up the rings. Besides, it smells really nice.

    Fuel starvation conundrum

My boat is an 89 and it had the original fuel hoses, that is, what was left of those hoses. The filler hose was mostly rotten and sweated fuel onto the foam, while the air hose was completely dried out and crumbling. I would never have found out If I would not have taken the floor out in order...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

A fairly easy way to remove the fuel from the tank into a fuel can is running a hose through the drainage hole in the transom (where you normally stick the plug) and pull it all the way to the fuel hose and connect it to that hose. On the other end(behind the boat) attach a shut off valve and...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

If the fuel lines are from before the year 2000 they might not be completely ethanol resistant. And even if they look good, they might still have very small holes that allow air to be sucked in. Also, what you did not mention is the fuel tank air vent hose. maybe that is crumbling or folding up...
