3.0 Mercruiser seems to hang or seize when starting

It shouldn't Yes. As others have said, pull the drive and the plugs and see if it will turn over by hand then.

    Motor won’t turn over

I'm waiting for @Rick Stephens to start questioning the carb rebuild 😄

    Motor won’t turn over

Still sounds like he's trying to idle with no throttle on a cold engine

    97 Mercruiser 3.0LX will run/won't run

Disconnect the switch for testing. Still haven't verified spark loss, right? If it doesn't restart when disconnected, that isn't your problem.

    Motor won’t turn over

Are you cutting back the throttle when it dies? You need to keep it 1000-1500 rpm until it warms up.

    97 Mercruiser 3.0LX will run/won't run

If you're losing spark intermittently then there's a good chance you've got some faulty wiring in the ignition system somewhere. Loose connection, chafed wire, intermittent short to ground, etc. You'll have to confirm loss of spark first

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Nah, that could never cause a problem, right @tpenfield ? When do you splash?

    Won’t idle 3.0 Mercruiser

Warped head, block... Guessing that a HG alone wouldn't cause all 4 to lose compression unless it was really buggered

    Bad Upholstery a Deal Killer?

Those seat bases are rotted. Guaranteed that the stringers are shot. Wouldn't be jumping at a Force 85 either if it's me. Hard pass.

Deck Repair - Fiberglassing Question (Newbie)

I'd suggest you core the foam as well, to the hull (PVC pipe works well for this) and check out the the nearby stringers thoroughly (including/especially the bottoms). Not sure how you'd eval the stringers without taking a core sample there as well.

    Banking Software

I think there are free web based apps? Mint.com etc. I've been using kmymoney on Linux for many years. They have windows and Mac versions as well that I haven't tried. Downside is that the banks several years ago made it difficult/impossible to import account info automatically (I haven't tried...

I think he's getting spline marks, his "friction marks" are where the grease is wiped clean. Don't overthink it. Again, the important part is ease of insertion. The marks guide you as to which direction you're off if insertion is difficult. If you don't insert/remove the bar straight you can...

    Bah. Water in bellows.

My understanding was that this seal was to keep grease in the bearing and wasn't needed on a sealed bearing. Although I did replace the seal when I replaced the bearing a few years back. I'm still thinking it could get through that way with those broken orings though.
