Head gasket or Cracked block??? 1987 4.3 175/v6

Welcome to iBoats @I buy lemons :( . . . . sorry to hear about the issues. My comments . . . Since the impeller was destroyed, you should look for & remove any remnants of the impeller further along the cooling system. Once you discovered the mayonnaise, did you happen to notice the oil...

Looking at an old 1978 Bayliner

First thing would be to make sure the current owner has proper proof-of-ownership paperwork (Title, registration, etc.) for the boat, trailer, and engines (if you live in a state that title engines). What type of moisture meter? 5-6% is not much, but it depends on if it was the marine type or...

    1990 Wellcraft 223 Eclipse

If you Google "boat glass replacement" a few things come up. https://www.hullglassplus.com/marine.html Curved glass seems to be the most challenging.

    Power Boat sinks in Michigan

Looks like they weren't giving up the ship . . . until it was almost too late. The video was posted about 10 months ago, so assuming it was last season (?) Notice how the boat quickly turtled . . .

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Yup, extra shade is a nice things on those hot sunny days. I have one of those extendable shades on my boat, but it is a 'SureShade' brand. I don't use it much, since much of the crew are sun worshipers

    Exhaust Manifold question

The aluminum is going to get depleted by the iron/steel of the engine. Salt water would be no good. In fresh water, it might last a while.

    Is this a rare silverline?

Greetings and welcome to iBoats . . . A 5.0 engine is going to be a V8. You may not find much information, because the boat is 41 years old. Perhaps rare in that how many are still left.

    Mercruiser 3.0 loss of power

Welcome to iBoats. . . For the best responses it is always good to post the serial number of your engine, if you have it handy.

    Ok. Trailer time!

As the others have stated, you should probably research and exhaust all options on getting what you have properly registered/titled.

    Bravo 3 Shifting Issue

When you have the drive off, just make sure you are getting proper movement of the lower shift cable and that the fitting in the bell housing is tight.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I got to run the boat some more to get the fuel burn while on plane. Last year it was around 1.15 - 1.20 mpg.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

After about 3 hours of cleaning while talking with a few old-timers at the town dock, I got the boat cleaned up so it is presentable. The seas were quite calm, so I took the boat out for a quick spin and back. Having indicators for the trim tabs really helps, as I set them to about 10˚ down...

    Bravo 3 Shifting Issue

I've taken my Bravo outdrives apart a couple of times. Once was to replace seals and some bearings, the other time was to fix a delayed shift. The shifting is done in the top part of the drive, so you can disassemble the upper and hopefully see what is wrong. Check the basics first, like...

8.1Gi milky oil and making oil

Welcome to iBoats . . . I think I know why the PO changed the oil before selling the boat . . . If the engine has a full closed cooling system, it would be fairly easy to pressure test the block and find (hear) the leak. What inspections did you have done before buying the boat? What...

    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

I pulled the spark plugs, cleaned them up checked the wiring, etc. The engine WAS running on 1 cylinder, by the looks of the plugs, the bottom one was firing, not the top cylinder. Runs good now - at least for the time being 😀 I think I’ll get some new plugs for it.

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

2 years ago I sold my Formula 330 - twin 7.4L Mercruisers with 1,050 hours. It does effect selling price, and it may take a bit longer to sell, as boats of similar age with less hours are more attractive to buyers. If a seller is realistic about asking price vs. age vs. usage hours, then they...
