1974 Invader Boat Company Giddings texas interior logo

This is from a 1987 boat . . . not sure if it was the same for the 1970's.

    No power to ignition

This is mostly a guessing game . . . since we don't have much information So, I'll guess that you cut an important ground wire when you did the bilge pump . . . the bilge pump may not have been wired correctly. or You shorted out a main fuse/circuit breaker when you cut the wires for the...

    496 bravo 3 3000 RPM plus overheat

Here is my thread on fixing Bravoitis. My outdrives were not too bad, but more in the early stages. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/bravoitis-fix.689156/

Replaced prop with the "same" spec prop. Loss of bottom end.

Yes, but think about what you have learned in the process. (y) I'm not much of a prop aficionado either, but . . . What tends to matter . . . Diameter Pitch Rake Cupping

    Diacom engine parameters

Glad you got it sorted out. I have the PCM-112 . . . so the latest type of controller. My previous boat had the MEFI-1 . . . so I skipped several generations of controller.

1979 Sure Cast side hull questions

Do you know if that is a foam-filled hull, like a Boston Whaler.? The older boats did have a wood transom, IIRC. If so, you could do some 'test' holes - low on the inside of the hull to see if you get water.

Mercruiser 6.2 cracked engine block from cold

OK - Let's summarize where things stand. The OP's questions . . . Can you please tell me if it is possible to replace the Mercruiser block with a block from the car? No . . . For this engine, being the new Mercruiser in-house built casting and parts it is unique to Mercruiser and not made...

Mercuiser 357 mag low compression on #6 (120 psi)

I'd get a decent gauge and run your own test to see what reading you get for the cylinders, particularly #6. I assume the inspection was pre-sales? Is the deal still pending?

1979 Sure Cast side hull questions

If you've got a wet transom, then probably water elsewhere in the hull, which would explain the bulging sides.

    2002 4.3L mercruiser

Also, a bit of history on the boat/problem would be helpful. New-2-You? or was it once working properly?

    1975 merc 7.5 steering tension

There is a friction plate underneath the top of the transom bracket in between the 2 clamps. Usually the problem is being too stiff, rather than loose. Here is my thread about replacing the swivel with a stainless steel piece...

1975 Merc 7.5 thunderbolt hard starting

I suspect there was something 'stuck' in the carburetor (or reed valve) and running it with the fuel system cleaner got it worked out. BTDT.

Cupped prop. . . probably making the difference.

1975 Merc 7.5 thunderbolt hard starting

Still thinking you have a fuel problem. Did you run a heavy dose of fuel system cleaner (of your choice) in the fuel? 15 minutes is not very long, but probably OK, if you had fuel system cleaner in the gas. Time to open the Toolbox. Maybe a full rebuild of the carburetor - replace...

1975 Merc 7.5 thunderbolt hard starting

OK, understood. Are you also using starting fluid into the carburetor to get the motor to start? (you mentioned adding some fuel directly to the cylinders . . .) I'd get the engine running, have a hefty amount of fuel system cleaner in the gasoline, go boating so the engine gets run under...

ECM Swap ? Plug and play ???

I think @alldodge is one of the few folks here who had their ECM tinkered with (by a high performance marine engine mechanic) to gain some HP on the top end. Certainly not a Plug 'n Play sort of undertaking. I have been running ECM/PCM controlled engines for about 11 years, and would say that...
