    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

You know that is odd, while there is some carbon build up on top of the pistons, the cyl heads/combustion chambers are pretty clean, cleaner than my old engine was when I took the cyl heads off. I am wondering if the electrode from that plug broke off and got caught between the valve and the...

    Engine replacement help…

I'd be curious as to if the person who bought it would be offering any other information such as: was it overheated? did the oil filter spring a leak (unlikely) did the owner back down too fast and cause it to hydrolock? there are only a limited # of things that can cause that kind of engine...

    Tires…

Radial & bias tires corner at different slip angles and that’s why they are felt to be incompatible on the same vehicle. I don’t think it matters though if you have a tow vehicle with radials & a trailer with bias. I have used Kenda Loadstar Bias tires for about 20 years with no failures not...

My 3-year electrical headache was solved today, and it was a simple fix! Wondering if this is common.

What were you using to secure the battery cables to the small threaded posts? Wingnuts? If so they can cause problems because they don’t stay tight. Use locknuts instead or a stainless nut with a lock washer. I bolted auto style but marine grade clamps to my cable ends and use the big posts.

    Engine replacement help…

Sounds like it could have hydrolocked.

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Long Island is a damp climate yesr round except if it gets really cold in the winter. I had the original carpet in mine & it never dried out under the rear seat or the seat pedestals up front. You could clearly see that is where all the rot started. So, no carpet for me. So far my partial...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Every year they have the Long Island Bluegrass festival at Tanner Park. We boat on the north shore but go 4 wheeling on the south shore…Sore Thumb & Democrat Pt.

    early vs late Cobra bellows.

Lol Yeah it all depends on the customer Think you’ll like the Four Winns. My old 200 Horizon (20’9”) handles the water great. Always felt safe in it.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Yes your results look very good. Yep I’m on the north shore of Long Island. Nice boating area with access to local harbors & LI Sound. On a nice calm day you can run across to Ct it’s only 8-9 miles.

Charcoal grey = OMC Silver = Volvo when you sell the boat guess which one people will want lol.

    early vs late Cobra bellows.

yep it is totally different, it is a Volvo so you have to do it the Volvo way. just remember your Cobra is really a Volvo just paint it silver I won't tell anyone lol.

It's the same tool for OMC Cobra, Merc and Volvo SX

What’s interesting is that no water showed up. It didn’t on mine either but they were done before the head gaskets really leaked. I’ll post mine up too. I do love those old cast iron 4.3s. They can take a beating!

Also whether the deck needs replacing or not I’d strongly consider ditching all the carpet on the deck. When I re did mine in 2006/2007 I had the deck gel coated in non skid gel coat & threw out all that nasty moisture trapping carpet. 17 years later (boat is stored outside all the time, but...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Agreed I think you did the right thing paying attention to a warning sign and doing something about it. In that same vein I think it is a good idea to do oil analyses on new or reman or repaired engines each year, to see trends in wear metals, water intrusion, fuel dilution and if the oil you...

    early vs late Cobra bellows.

PS checked just to see, that the BRP part number for the driveshaft bellows is the same for the dog clutch drives (86-93) and joint venture drives (94-98) part number 3854127

    early vs late Cobra bellows.

I think at one time the dog clutch Cobra & the SX Cobra which was later called the Volvo SX used the same exact part for the bellows. Then at some point Volvo changed the part to a different style with a stiffer center section. On the 1995 I’d use whatever OEM bellows BRP sells for that model...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

A couple of old pix from 2006. Not the greatest job but my first one. The dark framing is Mahogony, which is very rot resistant. I would coat the foam with epoxy if you do it this way. The gas tank mounts were cheap pine that were all rotted and let the gas tank start to move around! That...
