    Air Don't Freeze Winterization

Well, I never pushed my manifold life to the max for obvious reasons, but when I had the heads off 4 years ago I really inspected that water passage in the original intake manifold and it looked really good, not much flaking rust, I had bought a spare from ebay (fresh water parts sellers) but I...

'84 Lund 3.0L IO engine runs, locks up, runs, locks up

well you got a Cobra for sure. When you took the top cover off were the gears covered in oil, or not? It looks like the engine is from an older OMC boat because of the color, but it may not really matter.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

I actually called them today to ask about something else and also asked about their inventory and the guy I spoke to said they were 'loaded with trailers'....I think his name was Chris....

    Air Don't Freeze Winterization

but fresh water boaters hardly ever if at all replace exhaust manifolds while we in the salt pond change em every 5-7 years. think of trailer leaf springs some people do nothing, they rust like mad in no time and most of the time they are out of the water other people spray them 2x a season...

Yep that light blue is old OMC colors, the Cobras were all a charcoal grey, engines and drive/transom mount Does your drive look like this?

    Second Happiest Day . . .

https://riverheadtrailer.co/ https://greatoakmarina.com/ these are a couple of local trailer dealers on Long Island, not sure if they have inventory though. I was thinking of getting a new trailer for my old boat and decided to just put a heavier duty axle under it instead.

New to winterizing..is it possible to fill cylinders with antifreeze?

While you found the 4 plugs and drained those, you also have to remove the bottom end of the large hose that connects the circulating pump to the thermostat housing, that pump holds a lot of water and it won't drain unless you disconnect that hose. The 5th plug they are referring to is on the...

Twin 5.0 alphas,2 power steering pumps?

I'm still running my orginal P/S pump but picked up a spare reman unit off of ebay for about $150. Hope you don't have to change the steering actuator. Not a fun job. I just did mine last month, lasted 33 years so I can't complain. This is the older Bendix style one used by Merc and OMC till...

    4.3 MPI Exaust flapper

Correct, most likely won't hear it in the water. You can localize the noise with a mechanic's stethescope to be on the safe side. I had one making noise out of the water running on the water hose and it drove me crazy till I found it. As it turned out I did a top end overhaul (new heads) and...

4.3 GXI-F (2005) No spark or power at the coil. How do I check?

great work and follow up! many years ago, I changed the points and condensor on the family car (1972 Chevy) and it would not start. Lucky I kept the old points. New ones were defective! Always check your work and back track to the last thing you changed, or touched lol.

'84 Lund 3.0L IO engine runs, locks up, runs, locks up

I found this confusing to follow. First you said it’s a 3.0 Volvo. Then next it’s an OMC Cobra. So which is it? If the Cobra and no oil over the upper gears you will need a rebuilt upper gear housing at the least. Those units take approx 2 qts of gear oil and have to be filled correctly. If you...

1995 Four Winns Horizon 190 depth finder

My 1988 has a transducer on the starboard side of the bilge just in front of the engine. The dash gauge was long gone when I got this boat and I've been using a Garmin 441S sounder/GPS for some years, a pretty good unit.

Yes the “problem” is not enough profits and the “solution” is designed in planned failure.

In fresh water the ball valves may work but in the salt you need a drain plug that can be removed so the hole can be rodded out so they can drain. They will often get clogged with rust flakes. The original OMC/Volvo drain plugs seem to last forever. I fail to see what “problem” the plastic Merc...

Must have been a chilly ride out there it was only about 50 degrees here in LI yesterday. Boat looks very stable out on the water… It’s actually going up to the 70s for Wed and Thurs

High Performance Gear Lube Color - Bravo 3

as others said that bright green definitely suggests some water intrusion, it is usually a dark bluish-green.

    Winterizing time

The rear mounted P/S coolers on the OMCs and Volvos have a drain but its a finger buster to get at, I just disconnect the raw water intake hose at the thermo housing and hold that hose down in the bilge to drain then hold it up and fill with marine AF till it runs out the water intakes on the...

    1987, 454 Help!

keep in mind that the electric choke needs a constant 12V supply or it will close, they are better called "electric opening chokes". Normally with no power to the terminals they will close and the engine will run very rich. I have the old style divorced choke with the spring mounted on the...

No water draining from exhaust manifold

That does seen odd, I've been draining raw water cooled manifolds in salt water for many years and never ran into that. Unless the boat sucked up silt and it passed though the raw water side of the cooling system and clogged the manifold. Has this manifold been running hotter than the other? If...

    1987, 454 Help!

what? pull the engine because it's running rich? What kind of mechanic says that?! Quadrajet carb? Is it set up correctly? These are complex carbs you have to know what you are doing to get them to work right. If the engine is running rich you need a real mechanic who knows Quadrajets if that's...
