Anyone please help with my mercruiser 5.7 thunderbolt v igntion engine, hard to start

How long is "a long time"? When mine is cold and I'm starting it on muffs in the driveway, I sometimes will crank 30 seconds or more before it fires up. (Sometimes longer if it hasn't run in a while or it's cool out.) Incidentally, that's why I always warm the engine before heading to the boat...

Quagga and Zebra mussels inspection on mercruiser out drive.

I wouldn't worry one bit. That water is only 20 degrees or so hotter than what your hot water tap delivers. That's not going to harm any rubber bits.

    Mercruiser 5.7L Engine Hoist Recommendations

Building a wooden gantry is actually one of the easier and safer routes to go, IMHO, and you can reuse the lumber when you're done, so it's probably less expensive, too. Below is the one I made; I probably overbuilt it, out of the same sense of concern you voice.

Seeking advice on seemingly large hull/structural repair! Help please! 1979 Marquis Catalina.

I'd be very judicious in what you cut away before you have your cradle built. The last thing you want to do is complete a bunch of restoration work only to find your hull is racked from moving it before cutting away structure.

Seeking advice on seemingly large hull/structural repair! Help please! 1979 Marquis Catalina.

Lots of folks add bracing to the trailer to maintain the shape of the hull while the cap is off. Look around at some of the resto threads and you're likely to see a few examples.

Kinda urgent help needed with exhaust shutters...

Thanks, I saw those, too, but ordering one of them might get here in time (actually, now it says Saturday delivery which is too late). Ordering two of them changes the delivery date to sometime next week. Must not have more than one of them in stock...

Kinda urgent help needed with exhaust shutters...

Yeah, that's what I ordered and that's what doesn't fit. Thanks, Mercruiser, for your @#*&%$ parts system... I've read of too many folks hydrolocking their engines to want to use the boat without working shutters. I'll just install some aftermarket shutters and hope for the best...

Kinda urgent help needed with exhaust shutters...

It's a Mercruiser reman 350 Mag. It looks like there is another version of shutters: #807166A2. It matches the dimensions of the shutters I removed. It looks like no one has Quicksilver shutters in that model that I can get soon enough. I've ordered some aftermarket shutters and I guess they'll...

Kinda urgent help needed with exhaust shutters...

Hi all, I'm in the process of replacing my shutters after running the engine without water to the muffs. (Details leading up to the need for replacement here: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/need-to-check-shutters%E2%80%A6-any-tips.767319/#post-5866978) Anyway, I ordered replacement shutters...

Seeking advice on seemingly large hull/structural repair! Help please! 1979 Marquis Catalina.

For what it's worth, I did my restoration over the winter in a garage heated with propane heaters. I was a mild winter, but I was able to keep the space warm enough to 'glass. I was fortunate and did not have to re-do my stringers, though. Not saying it will be quick or easy, but it can be done.

Need to check shutters… any tips?

Ugh. I didn't realize their resting position was fully closed. I was hoping I could avoid replacing but I might as well put in a new set as long as I'm this far. These things are pricey... $80 each for Quicksilver parts. (Knockoffs are much less - about a third the cost - but I don't much care...

Ran boat out of water for ~2min but seems fine? Replace impeller?

I'll be interested to hear what you find out, @boating347. I didn't run mine quite as long as you did, a bit less than a minute, but my shutters and rubber bits look fine.

Need to check shutters… any tips?

Thanks for all the tips on getting at the exhaust shutters. A bit of PowerTune and some contortions to get at the boot, and I was able to push it down over the Y-tube. I think I lucked out. Despite the engine running for about 45-50 seconds without water running thru the muffs, the shutters...

Need to check shutters… any tips?

So I need to check the shutters on my exhaust system (350 Mag Alpha One Gen 2, std. thru-prop exhaust). It looks like that entails removing the cast iron elbows and the heavy rubber tubes on either side of the elbows so I can look into the Y-pipe. Are there any tricks to make it easier to...

    12v Cell Signal Booster

A change in jobs has pushed me toward looking for a cell signal booster for our cabin in Ontario, Canada. We currently get a faint signal (one or two bars of LTE) which allows for text messaging and occasional data transmission (but very slow). I need to find something to boost the signal enough...

Ran boat out of water for ~2min but seems fine? Replace impeller?

I, unfortunately, I am in a similar situation. This Fourth of July, for the first time this year, I fired up the boat. As I always do, I ran it in the driveway on months before taking it to the river. in my case, I hooked up the hose, and when I opened the ball valve near the muffs, water came...

    Dust Cap Woes

If your dust caps, which don’t weigh very much, are flying off your hubs, I’d be concerned that bearing buddies, which are quite a bit heavier, will be even more prone to flying off unless you can get them to fit perfectly. They also are a bit pricey, so the cost of losing them would be...
