    Ok. Trailer time!

I don't know where you are in Illinois, but I've dealt with these guys before and they were good to do business with: http://www.needatrailer.com/ Might be easier to get a used trailer that going the HF route...

    Ok. Trailer time!

I'm in Illinois, too. When I was first looking to buy a boat, we found one that came from Wisconsin, where a trailer title is not required. In Illinois, a title is required and after a lot of reading and research, I decided it wasn't worth the effort to buy an untitled boat. There are options...

Engine Alignment tool goes in about 1/4 of the way, question.

There must be some miscommunication. The image below (from service manual #17) clearly shows the alignment tool bottomed out in the coupler.

    Wheel bearing grease "oozing"

That was my thought, too. I wonder if the inner seal is blown out from all that grease.

    Good luck with the launch!

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Just wanted to follow up with some resolution to my problem with the drive not holding pressure. After getting distracted with several other projects, I got back to the outdrive. I split the drive again and I noticed there was some crud that seemed to be interfering with the quad ring sealing...

Charger for on trailer or shore power

This is what I was referring to: https://a.co/d/7Pq5HLN I don't have one (yet); I just open the sunpad hatch and reach in with an extension cord. The waterproof receptacle plug would make things easier, but the charger works fine without it.

    Checking oil level

I measure when the motor is level. On my trailered boat, when the trailer is level, the engine is pretty close to level. I don't know how much differenence it actually makes, but car/truck engines are supposed to be check on level ground, so I figure a boat engine should also be level or close...

Charger for on trailer or shore power

Something like this NOCO charger/maintainer is pretty much foolproof: https://a.co/d/cf2mjJi I have one and it keeps the batteries in good shape, whether they need charging or just maintaining. I leave it hooked up all the time, except when I'm out on the...

    Water in Bellows

Seems like if bilge water entered the bellows, half of the motor would be submerged...

    Bow damage fix?

Ten gallons of water over two hours is a LOT of water getting into the boat. To me, that suggests that either you're getting intrusion from other places or the damage to the keel is even worse than it looks in in the pictures. If you're getting that amount of water inside the boat, I'd also be...

    Sealing inside of aluminum boat

I'm not sure I'd bother if it's not leaking, but if you want insurance, you could coat the seams with Gluvit and then paint the hull before installing the deck.

    Water in Bellows

Seems like an awful lot of water for such a small tear in the gasket, especially if the boat isn't stored in water. I'd re-check the bellows and their attachment to the bell housing and gimbal housing. Another option would be to replace the gasket and use the boat for a while and see if you get...

    Bunk lag bolts

Lags bolts work fine unless the bunk boards are too soft. I re-used the boards and lag bolts when I recarpeted my 1997 trailer and they still are holding strong.

Beginner Buying Used Question Re. Sea Trials

@airshot makes a great point about the paperwork. If the seller doesn't have that all in hand, walk away. It's not worth wasting your time if they don't have the paperwork.

    oil change

After having trouble a Moeller extractor that repeatedly fell apart, I ended up buying a small $25 wet/dry vacuum from Walmart. I duct-taped a section of garden hose to the end of the vac hose. The garden hose screws onto the dipstick and I can drain the engine faster than I could with the...
