    Fuel Pump Bad?

Well that's disturbing. I do have new fuel lines on it now, but under the cover, not from tank to motor. Cleaned out the tank today and found some stuff in there. Do you think this could be a problem? LOL

    Fuel Pump Bad?

You guys rock! This all makes perfect sense and as I've been transferring fuel back and forth as I switch motors, I've been finding gray filmy stuff in my paint strainer. It breaks up easily when I touch it. No idea what the heck it is, but I could see it building up and clogging the screen on...

    Fuel Pump Bad?

Bulb went flat while was squeezing it trying to limp into port, not from vacuum I don't think. Going to clean out the tank real well, but still think that fuel pump is suspect because the only way could keep her running was with squeezing the bulb. Can the check valve be removed and serviced...

    Fuel Pump Bad?

Took the boat out again today, with the Fastwin. Started nice, ran strong, then started to falter. Stopped it, took off the cover. Air bubbles in the line again and fuel in bottom of pan. Pumped the bulb, gas dripping off bottom of pump. Snugged up the lines tried again. Same thing...

    Bubbles, Tiny Bubbles

Well what do you know. It wasn't the pump after all. Swapped out the fuel line going into it and no more bubbles. 20 mins in the barrel without a hiccup!

    Bubbles, Tiny Bubbles

Thanks R1, I'll see if can dig one up. If anybody knows a good cheap source I'd appreciate a link.

    Bubbles, Tiny Bubbles

OK, that makes a lot of sense. Guess I need to pull the pump off. What's the smartest thing to do though? Rebuild what I got or just roll the dice on a cheap-o and hope I get a good one? I'm really not wanting to pour a whole lot more money into this thing, but it's not going to do me a bit of...

    Bubbles, Tiny Bubbles

Am I running champagne? Where are all these bubbles in the fuel line from the pump to the carb coming from? Motor is a 65 Fastwin 18. Been having fits with this thing. I knew it had problems, but it seems like nothing works right on it. Was losing spark on one cylinder when engine warmed up...

    Reverse Lock Out

Can you ID the part nos for me so I can try to find them? Maybe this diagram is for a different motor, but it sure looks like mine. Nothing is locked, I put it back the way it was. The pegs seemed too large for the grooves and it was so snug side to side that I could barely move it. Do you...

    Reverse Lock Out

I took the bracket off, put the side pegs into the unused row of grooves. Seemed way to tight and it also kept the motor from swinging up fully. When looking over a parts diagram for the motor, I don't see anything missing either. I don't think this is my exact motor, although it is a McCulloch 14HP

    Reverse Lock Out

Also does this rod have anything to do with reverse lockout?

    Reverse Lock Out

Pretty sure I'm missing some parts. I have a row of slots with nothing in them and a bracket that seems to be just dangling there. Attaching some pics.

    Reverse Lock Out

Good to know I'll try that tomorrow. Is there also a way to tighen it side to side? Out on the lake I had to really lean on the rudder to hold it on course. Be nice if I could let go of it once in awhile.

    Reverse Lock Out

I get that and don't lock my Fastwin 18 down while on the lake, but it doesn't pop up on me in R like this one does. Just wondering if this is normal or something is wrong.

    Reverse Lock Out

Had the '66 McCulloch 14 HP on the water yesterday, but every time I gave it more than a little gas in R the motor nearly jumped into the boat! I had to hold it down. Is something broken or missing? Don't most outboards lock in place when they go in R?

    Quit on the Water!

That's pretty brilliant actually. Hole must be a lot larger than I was imagining it to be. Haven't been fortunate enough to work on one of these.

    Quit on the Water!

But then what? Is there room for a feeler gauge, that you may not have along, or to clean them up? Seems to me you'd be SOL just the same.....LOL

    McCulloch Shear Pin Needed

Thanks for the advice. What I did was found two screws that a magnet wouldn't stick to and fashioned them into pins. Thought one was aluminum, but it was so hard that I now think it must be stainless. I have that one in there now. Guess I won't try it.

    Quit on the Water!

Interesting. Must have been hard to adjust them through a slot though right? Maybe that's why they stopped doing it. So easy to pop off the flywheel, and it's not super easy to get those points exact. I'd pull the flywheel anyway I think.

    McCulloch Shear Pin Needed

Damnit anyway, the ones I ordered are too big! Maybe because the motor was actually branded Sears to begin with. Brain fart on my part I guess, but figured they'd be the same. A friend is sending me the correct part and guess I'll keep my home-made ones for spares. My thing is I don't want to...
