    Seat Cover Ideas?

Wow, those are both good ideas. Both turned out nice too. Thanks for posting these. I was out last week for maybe the last time this year and once again I was bothered by how if I didn't brace myself, I was all over the seat. Felt like I was on a Tilta-Whirl. Would you have a link to those...

I think you're right Scott. I now drain the bowls on everything after adding SF and running them dry. I get so sick of cleaning carbs. I've cleaned carbs 7x this year already, although most of these machines were new acquisitions.

Do you generally mix your fuel in a clear glass bottle? In my part of the world cans are opaque. Plastic or metal. I'm not so sure a thin layer would be detectable anyhow. So none of you have ever researched this? Plenty of comparisons out there. I was just wondering how come if I put Stabil...

Do your own research. I've read this many places. I'm bringing it up here simply to get more opinions. It does seem though that the two products work vastly differently. All I can say is since using mainly SF I've not had any issues and I did have issues with Stabil. Especially in my mowers. It...

Yet, Stabil never was any good really was it? I read that all it does is create an air proof barrier on top of you gas, but if you move or bump the vehicle/container you break the seal and ruin the protection. Basically only good for a vehicle or container you know for sure won't get...

Is it a must to change the seals? Or is it only needed if they look damaged. Like the oil plug on your car? Should I not even worry about it unless a leak is found later? Found an old chart on an obscure web site that says the Fastwin holds 9 oz of lube. Can I assume the McCulloch should hold a...

OK, cool. What about the McCulloch?

Any recommendations for synthetic gear lube? I see kits that have the pump and also include a brand specific lube, like Mercury. Can I use that in my motors? Approx how much do I need? A quart per engine? Will a quart do both? One other thing, do I need gasket washers and if so where the heck do...

What is the advantage of synthetic lube? Or special marine lube for that matter? Isn't oil pretty much oil as long as the weight is correct? I run synthetic oil in just one of my cars and see no real difference. I still change it every 2500-3k.

You must live right! I'm not so sure your results are typical. What do I know though...... Thanks for the input.

A few more noob questions. Can I just get defogger at the auto parts or do I need some special marine formula? How much gear oil do I need to refill my two motors? One is a 66 McCulloch 14, the other is a 65 Rude Fastwin 18. I got part of a bottle of Valvoline 80/90W gear oil on the shelf, can I...

OK, I see the logic in checking or changing the lower unit oil now, but think Dingbat is on the right track regarding fogging. Those recommending it I think may not be factoring in that I have 2 strokes that are over 50 years old. I'm not even sure fogging oil existed back then, yet these motors...

Motors are nothing special. One is a Fastwin 18, the other is a McCulloch 14. I'm planning on changing lower unit grease in the spring. Is there a compelling reason to do it now? Can fogging be accomplished with a spray bottle of fuel? I've had one been using all summer while bringing my motors...

First winter owning a boat. Have a couple little aluminum boats with outboards. Do I need to do more than just run the motors out of gas? I already have SeaFoam in the tanks, should I put more in? What fuel I don't use up this week I plan to burn in my truck. I have a cover for the MirroCraft...

Boat Bumpers - Cheap Easy DIY Project

You could well be right. They might not hold up year around on a dock. Or maybe they would, since they're made out of tires. I just toss them over the side when I tie off. They have the consistency of carpet padding, maybe a little firmer. Pavers feel real nice to walk on. Not sure if they'd...

    Fastwin Shift Lever Rubs

That makes a lot of sense Matt. The handle doesn't appear to be cracked. This may actually be a good thing. I'll bet it would be easier to bend the shaft a little than the handle itself. I did find a p/n on the busted lever: 204809. The shaft that might be bent I think is p/n: 0379794 The...

    Fastwin Shift Lever Rubs

Can lever be bent back? I hate to ruin the paint, but should I heat it up maybe? Thanks for the replies. I'd have never guessed the lever was bent. The rubber bushing I made is in picture #4. When removed the other arm I needed to stabilize it somehow. I don't recall seeing a p/n on it, but I'll...

Boat Bumpers - Cheap Easy DIY Project

When got my little boat I wanted some bumpers, but the ones I saw for sale on line seemed bulky and expensive. Kept trying to think of something that would work that I already had. Then I saw a stack of leftover rubber pavers that I had no use for. They are made out of recycled tires and are...

    Fastwin Shift Lever Rubs

Over the winter I want to paint my motors, but this one has an issue with the shift lever rubbing against the cover. It's actually worn almost completely through in one place and I can't figure out why. The lever that I think is for remote controls was broken, so I removed it and replaced it...

    Help IDing Trailer

Unfortunately common sense is anything but common these days Jim. Guess I have at least a little, cause I found this place! The members here have been a tremendous help. For laughs look at my very first post. Thought I destroyed my McCulloch 14 for sure, but that little motor is alive and...
