    1993 4HP Johnson

I’m getting confused but that’s not hard to do either. In post #8 you said you had spark. Did I miss something here that caused you to lose spark?

Yea you do need more water. The screens are just for the pick up. The pumps are not self priming. The water level needs to be above the pump for it to work properly.

Put some fuel oil mix in a spray bottle or an old water bottle with a hole in the cap and squirt it into the carb. If she runs you will likely need to clean the carb. Keep us posted.

Go with 50:1 Do a water pump service when you do the lower oil change. If it sat with fuel in it you will likely need to clean the carb. But it’s possible it was stored correctly to just look over the fuel delivery system and check for leaks. If it all looks good see if she will run.

    Johnson 50hp

Push it in while cranking. Once it starts you don’t need to push it in any more. You will only need to push it in on cold starts. Once it’s warm it should fire just turning the key.

60HP 1989 Johnson outboard low compression

It’s pretty short video but it doesn’t sound to bad. Keep in mind it’s not a modern day motor and it will never sound like one. Either get it in the water or in a barrel so you can get some back pressure on the exhaust and let her run for awhile and get good and warm before trying to work out...

Help please! 1988 Johnson outboard lack of power and stalls.

Yep I miss understood what you said. Flywheel keys can and do sheer. The flywheel only needs to rotate a tiny bit to throw off the timing. There is only one way to know for sure and that is to check. It’s a free test and you can rule it off your troubleshooting list.

Hum I’m not sure what the numbers should be for that motor but it does seem low to me. I’m sure others will chime in.

    Fuel Pump Bad?

Some of that crap is probably jammed up in the pump and causing it to leak. That pump needs to come apart. As mentioned they are easy and cheap to repair and far better than anything you can buy today.

Flywheel is easy to spin without spark plugs

If your battery only has 12 volts it’s just about dead. Charge the battery and have it tested.

Just for kicks pull the line off the pump and pump some fuel into a glass jar and see what you get.

88 Evinrude 48 spl flywheel rub

It’s hard to say without seeing or knowing what level of wear your talking about. I would say if it’s a concern to you that they are badly worn and you have the coin to replace everything then may as well. Otherwise it’s a trial and error project.

    100:1 or 50:1?

Personally I would start with another compression test. Keep pulling until the needle stops rising. If you did it that way maybe try another gauge. If it turned out to be ok. Repair the primer and start moving forward from there.
