Mariner 45hp Carburetor Leaking after Total Rebuild....stumped!

was it possible to use a drill the same size as the inlet needle to drill the seat a bit more, eliminating the defect?

    Bought wrong prop

The spline length and position on the Merc and OMC are different. The splines should be the same size. The merc prop should fit on the OMC, but not go on all the way. I used a Mercrusier prop on my Johnnyrude outboard. I needed to drill out the splines nearest the inside of the prop to make...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

The only real synch necessary is to make sure the carbs open at the same time. There are adjustments on the bottom carb where the plastic linkage attaches. Set the throttle so the top carb to ready to open, but still closed, and then loosen the linkage on the bottom carb and set it the same...

    LU 1655-7332 Parts Diagram?

Shims go behind the gears to achieve correct tooth mesh. Too little will strip the gears, too much mesh will cause breakage of gears. Take a look at the crowleymarine site. Gearcases from IL 4/6 motors 1973 up to and including a'77 Merc inline 4/6 will fit your motor. Likely others will too...

    Enrichner valve

Of course, you could test it the old-fashioned way. Use a piece of wire to jumper from the positive battery cable on the starter solenoid to the enrichener connection. That will ensure the enrichener is getting +12VDC. If she doesn't work when you do that, either the enrichen is bad or the...

2 stroke randomly does not want to start + house battery voltage seems low

Mercs usually have preload on the throttle cable to help you find neutral. To do that, adjust the throttle cable at the engine, in neutral, to push the throttle closed a bit more to add the preload.

    Enrichner valve

It could be a short in the enrichener coil, pulling down the voltage. I do not know if that circuit has a fuse. Pull the wire off the enrichener and test the voltage again. Also, perform a resistance test on the enrichener body to ground. Resistance should be zero. I have never had an...

    fuel problem

When a 2 cycle outboard leaks fuel out of the exhaust, it can be caused by a leaking fuel pump diaphragm.

1976 mercury 1150 115hp runs on muffs but not in lake

You need to have +12VDC on the red and adjacent white wires to have spark. The red wire is "hot" all the time, and the white wire is powered by the ign switch. There is a test on CDI electronics web page that will test all of your ign components but the trigger. You need to pass that test...

1976 mercury 1150 115hp runs on muffs but not in lake

Triggers and distributor housings were $225 the last I looked some years ago. I think CDI Electronics made them, but Sierra is also a possibility.

    50 hp high speed misfire

I doubt that is your issue, however, as was said, it is easy to check/clean. But, hey let's be optimistic.

1976 mercury 1150 115hp runs on muffs but not in lake

In your spare time, you might source a new trigger and distributor housing, for the day your trigger becomes intermittent. Just to see if they can still be gotten easily. At this time in it's life, (nearly 50 years old), they tend to start to fail.

    50 hp high speed misfire

Those statements were of a general nature about ether. The fire extinguisher statement was for you though. The common dry chemical fire extinguishers are real corrosive, so if you need to discharge one, clean up the chemical promptly or it will corrode the carb, the throttle plates and most...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Clymer and Seloc service manuals often have grossly inaccurate info in them. I would not use them, unless you are real familiar with the motor. BTW - whenever using ether, have a fire extinguisher nearby, as that stuff is real flammable. An engine may not have enough spark to run, but often...

snapped driveshaft Mercury 2011 150 Optimax

Fazt, I guess I am naive, but I do not think the driveshaft should be made so close to power output tolerance that it would ever snap. It is a big dumb piece of SS. Make it a bit stronger and eliminate that issue,

    Trophy 1703 motor choice

Gee, why not run the Merc for a season and see how it goes. If you don't like it you can always switchover. 35HP is a lot to give up for snobbiness. The boat may wallow with the smaller motor.

    COIL INFO

Gee, sounds like youneed a service manual. A parts place like crowleymarine will give you an idea if coil and wire are one piece.

    Gear case

OK, see if SEI makes one. I know they make replacements for my '98 Johnny V6. Pay attention the the driveshaft length. My '98 has the 2 piece driveshaft, and the SEI replacement reuses the upper driveshaft.

    Battery charger size needed

We don't even get ice here at the Jersey shore anymore. I do need to wear two sweatshirts when it is really cold....so at least I have that. In 20 years I won't need to winterize the boats. Mostly because I will be dead.

    Enrichner valve

Put a voltmeter on the power wire to the enrichener, and see if you have +12VDC when the choke is pushed. If not => wiring issue. if so => enrichener solenoid is bad. You could also check the enrichener solenoid with an ohmmeter. I would expect a few ohms of resistance, if the solenoid is good.
