    Steering maintenance

I was afraid you'd say that! LOL. I didn't take anything apart but I took the patch off the transom plate and the tiller, swivel pin and bushing were tight as were the pinch bolts on the ring. Which reminds me, I recall on my old MC1 drive there was a grease fitting for the bushings. I wonder...

    Steering maintenance

Apologies, guys, I just realized that my signature doesn't show up on the phone. Yep it's the 95 searay 220. This boat wanders like a gypsy at slow speed, it's heavy and obstinate! What concerns me is the play while on plane. I can turn the wheel 2 inches either direction before I get a...

    Steering maintenance

I would like to reduce the slop in the steering system so I read up on it in the manual and came across one of the many Merc "IMPORTANT" boxes..."slight feed back could be encountered if cable guide tube flat surfaces are not positioned vertically." Mine are horizontal. I don't know what slight...

    Time to reassemble

Guess that why they call it a shake down cruise! In my case the shoe fit ok. It shifted really well at first, I ran it thru the gears several times in open water and it shifted fine, then coming back in I chunked it into neutral and then hit reverse for braking purposes and found I had no...

    Time to reassemble

When I launched last week I had a damaged prop and just wanted to get it to the dock. Since then I put a new prop on and yesterday went out for a proper ride for about 3 hours. The SEI drive has a distinct jet engine sound which I understand may go away once it is broke in as I know the owner...

Lower Shift Cable Adjustment - Am I doing it right?

You have to establish a base point to work from, forward gear is a good place to start. The detent on the remote is not a place to measure from, that's why the slot is there, to adjust for slop in the remote.

Replacement Tires for dual axle trailer?

My 2 cents.. I'm fortunate to live on the river so my trailer is not used and when I need it occasionally, like every 5 years. I get the cheapo. If I was running the road, I would get the best. It is all about need.

Lower Shift Cable Adjustment - Am I doing it right?

Go with the video, if you have a need for the assist then setup is a bit different. I just did this an took the assist off. If you feel a need to keep it then adjust the remote cable to fit the assist. I pitched the assist.. I'm not a tech, but it works

Bennett Trim Repair And Auto Pro Install

This thread is a walk thru time, what a history lesson. The sea ray I just acquired has the said tabs but no automatic control just rocker switches. They seem to work but I'm not real sure how to use them..LOL

Forgot to say, it was a solid 4700.

    Prop shopping

The book says 4400 4800 rpm at wot. I suppose I was light as it was just me and half tank of fuel.

    Prop shopping

I put a black max 14 1/2 x 19p and it seems to be fine. It will easily reach 4800 rpm on the boat tach, although the speedo doesn't work. That said it seemed plenty fast enough. Gets on plane well, I think it is good enough for my needs and doesn't seem to be stressing the engine so maybe it's a...

    Time to reassemble

Just a big shout out to all who have helped me with this project. I put it in the lake this morning and had a successful launch. Since I only had 2 and half blades on my prop I didn't run it up but it is so quiet I can hear the engine rather than the gimbal bearing and my shift cable is no...

    Prop shopping

Thanks much for the help! At this point a starter prop is better than none. I need to learn a lot more about props but at this point I just want something that will be acceptable and safe. Over time I will get to know the boat.

    Prop shopping

Thx, the size checks out as to what the boat came with. I could get another like it, just looking at the many different brands that are offered. Just want the best bang for my buck.

    Prop shopping

I inherited a 1995 searay 220 with a 5.7 carbed. The prop on It is a black max 14.25X 21p with half a blade missing. Have no idea how it performed when in one piece. I've no need for a fancy SS prop but I would like to get a decent AL and could use some guidance.. Thx

    Buffing the hull

Thanks, i will stick to what still works, this boat hull is not bad. No significant battle scars just frosty. I buffed one side today and I'm happy. Just hope my wrenching turns out as well.

    Buffing the hull

I don't trust myself to turn a DA loose with 400 and I'm probably about as grumpy and old as you. I will wet sand with a 800 and work up but I have the time.. I always used to use Fleet wax after the buff, it worked well but always open to something new that might work better..
