    Transom length

You would need to measure it. Likely 20" or 25"

Shim material for swim step bracket

Gee, I would think the Walmart plastic cutting board ($5) would last forever. The question is the thickness, IMO.

1989 Mercury 2.4 Black Max 200 Service Manual

For exact carb jet sizes you will need a factory service manual, and that may not be detailed enough. A place like Crowleymarine will tell you all the possible jetsizes for your motor, which should tell you if you are running some set of correct jets. My Mercury non-year specific service...

89 150 mariner lost top end replaced burnt rectifier ran ok for ten minutes and then lost top again , but rectifier looks ok

Do you have spark to all cylinders? That motor has 1 stator, 2 switchboxes and 3 triggers. The stator has both low speed and high speed windings. I believe the stator switchover to high speed windings is about 2000 RPM. You will therefore need to test spark at high speed as well. Lost...

Shim material for swim step bracket

Gee, flat shims? Aluminum plate, big washers, a piece of a walmart plastic cutting board, lots of stuff could be used.

89 150 mariner lost top end replaced burnt rectifier ran ok for ten minutes and then lost top again , but rectifier looks ok

If the engine runs well with the rectifier disconnected and poorly with it connected, suspect that the rectifier is shorted to ground. The stator charging coils and the stator ign coils share a common steel core, so they are capable of influencing each other's behavior.

90 Etec tilt and trim pump leak

Look up the rebuild kit OEM part number on Crowleymarine, and then see if an aftermarket kit is avail. The kit for my '98 Johnny 150HP motor is $100 at Crowley.

    Shifting problem

I would remove gearcase and set it to neutral. Also set the control to neutral and reinstall. The reason is that neutral is a single point, vs forward which has a range for the shift lever to move. You can install the gearcase with the control set to forward, which is also a single...

89 150 mariner lost top end replaced burnt rectifier ran ok for ten minutes and then lost top again , but rectifier looks ok

You can disconnect the yellow wires at the rectifier and insulate them. Now the condition of the rectifier will have no effect on the ign system. Remember that the battery won't charge, so this is for test purposes only.

    Water Temperature Sending Unit

On my '93 V6, one could pull a threaded brass elbow out of the thermostat cover and install a tee and sender. You would not know temperature until the thermostat opens, but you would see her overheat, if the 'stats are good.

    Shifting problem

Gee, look at the yoke area, just above the gearcase. See if the upper and lower shift shafts are mated.

    Water Temperature Sending Unit

My '93 Merc V6 came with a overheat sensor on one head and a temp gauge sender on the other. You might check your heads. Maybe you have a plug, if no sensor.

2002 Mercury 150xl Saltwater Fuel consumption

Check for leaks. A steady drip-drip-drip adds up. Check the spark plugs and see if they are black with fuel. If carb motor, check the see if the enrichener is stuck open. Check to see if the fuel pump is leaking internally or externally.

    warning alarm wont stop beeping

A '94 Mariner would usually have oil injection. There are low and no oil alarms associated with that system. There is a "Lube alert" component which is supposed to control and differentiate those different alarms. It will have 5 wires and a ground. See if the oil injection is still connected...

    warning alarm wont stop beeping

Look on the cylinder head of the motor for a brown or tan wire. That is the overheat alarm. A lot of motors do not have a sender for a gauge, just a simple overheat sensor. I assume you have a separate buzzer? One side should be connected to purple, the other side should be connected to that...

    98 Johnson leaking hydraulic fluid.

Normally you use a spanner with 2 studs to remove the hydraulic cylinder caps. They are avail on Amazon for small $ A Sierra PTT motor is likely good. Normally I use ARCO, but it likely mach nicht. Repair kits for the entire PTT unit are avail. They contail orings and seals. I would get...

How do you test a lower unit for leaks.

OK, but not too much pressure, or you will have a leak. Say 5psi max?

2012 Mercury has occasional shudder when just in gear

My old Evinrude did that. Of course, it was a Frankenrude, with the wrong carb on it. I therefore think it is a fuel related miss. What kind of motor is it? 2 Stroke EFI? Maybe the fuel injector needs adjustment or the injectors are clogged? I would unplug and clean all electrical cables...

    1998 TRACKER PT175 "No compression"

A 3 cylinder 175HP motor is unusual. They would normally be a V6. Let's pretend the damage is as the seller says. To fix the issue, the block would need to be torn down, the top cylinder bored oversize, and a new OS piston and rings installed. After reassembly, you will need to find the...

How do you test a lower unit for leaks.

If you have a gear oil pump, use the hose on a bicycle pump to add a few PSI to the gearcase and listen/watch for leaks. if you don't have a gear oil pump, I recommend you get one. It makes adding gear oil much easier than squeezing the silly tubes.
