    if you pulled the drive shaft and saw oil "down the hole" I would say that it was expected. Finding no loil "down the hole" would have been a dry GC :-(

    Johnson Outboard 9.5 1973 9R73B can hardly pull start with spark plugs in but with plugs removed pulls very easy

    Remove Gas Plug at Carburator, Gas Tank leak, Water Pump replacement.

    just keep pumping the bulb and if it runs OK the fuel pump is likely bad ... but check cooling has uggested ... heat will kill it !

    could is 10 have been rebranded to 9.9hp with a stencil just to stay under registration obligation for the boat ? but yes it is a 10hp around my area 10hp and up needs one to register his boat. Merc 9.8 or turtles are very popular

    1993 40hp Johnson Starts for about 60 seconds and shuts off

    time to focus on fuel issues. looks like it can run a few initial drops of fuel then runs short (carb job should help) otherwise the ignition is flaky...try coolant spray on ignion parts while runs and if it keep running longer the coolled part is suspect.

    1976 25 hp, no spark

    did you put B+12v directly on the starter ?? to confirm it as faulty ?? or do you just have a solenoid/connection/start key issue.

    No water coming from the outlet house

    try to fix the dying issue first ....pumping water means impeller , missing impeller key water tube obstructions , internal passages, plugged up pee hose etc.... best to get your engine running more than 60 seconds. if you think it dies from being HOT.... then work the cooling...
