New wiring harness for 1979 70hp?

As Racerone says. You can make your own. You should have the old wiring harness colors. So, red is battery positive, Black is battery Neg., choke is grey. Ign power is white, Starter solenoid is yellow, tach sender is brown, Ign killer wire is salmon or orange.

New wiring harness for 1979 70hp?

ADI (alternator driven ignition) is the type of ign system that you have, versus battery powered CDI (capacitive discharge ignition). CDI Electronics is a company that makes lots of replacement ign parts. If you need controls, you also need a boat wiring harness. The newer controls are...

New wiring harness for 1979 70hp?

I did not see on on the web either. That was surprising as I had bought a harness for my old '77 Merc, likely in the early 2000s and had no issue finding one. Flea Bay is sold out, but they could get more. If the quick disconnect plug is good, you can cut the wires off and solder and shrink...

    Mercury 40hp Motor mounts

Those are the upper mounts. The mounts are inside two castings of the exhaust extension that sandwich them. You need to pull the powerhead off to get to them. Generally the bolts will not be reusable, due to corrosion. They are usually very strong (grade 8 ) steel bolts, with nylon...

    Merc trim pump

If you jumpered the trim limit switch and she still won't trim, and you need to bump the trailer switch to make it engage, I would say the wiring is bad. Since she does trim up and down, the solenoids are good, and the power to them is good. I would check the trim and tilt wiring, where it is...

    Replacing Cleats

A lot of OEMs do use screws to attach cleats to the gunwale. They pull out at the wrong time.

is a 60hp outboard too small for this boat

Another thing, in 1967, the largest Johnnyrude was likely 90HPV4 or maybe less. Obviously OB boats of that era were made to run with less power and had lower max HP ratings. In addition, hulls were designed to run with those lower HP motors. Adding more power to those, may not increase speed...

    Cleaning and Restoring Cap

Generally the hull and cap were gelcoat. This was sprayed into the mold first, followed by glass cloth and resin. Gelcoat is the most durable, but paint has a higher shine, generally. Most high end yachts are painted with Imron or Awlgrip paint. These are two part polyurethane, and are best...

Mercury 200 optimax what to expect?

Gee, the Optimax is low emissions, because the scavenging is done with air only, not air+fuel, like in the carb engines. This should result in very low fuel an oil consumption, in comparison to the carb motor. Also, A lot of Optimax's could run on standard TC-WIII oil. You might check it.

Mercury 200 optimax what to expect?

In theory, the performance should be about the same, and plenty for a 17 footer. I expect fuel usage will be quite a bit less on the optimax. I am interested in this topic, as my neighbor had a 150HPV6 Optimax, and I thought it slow, compared to my Johnny 150HPV6 2 stroke carb motor. The...

Mid 90s (‘95)Four Winns vs mid 90s(‘96) Monterey bow riders

Four Winns usually had V-P outdrives. Are they still supported? Not sure what Monterey had for power.

    2003 Johnson J90PLSTC Starting issues

Gee, "Dangit" doesn't cover that issue, IMO. "Rats" is necessary. A hole in the piston is bad. I would think the block needs to be inspected to see if there is any other damage.

is a 60hp outboard too small for this boat

Gee, I would try it. My rule of thumb is it the boat makes 35MPH, you are good. I think that 65HP motor will not do that, however. A guess would be a 90HP or greater motor to get 35MPH. JMO

Can someone please help me to identify what year this is there in no tag with the ser # and it has a reman power head so there's no # on the block of

Once you find out the year of the powerhead, you can determine if the airbox is correct, and if the airbox is correct for the clamshell cowling. Choke plates were d/c in newer models, The orginal V6 motors cane out in 1978, with choke plates. Not sure when they went the way of the Dodo.

    1981 Merc 115 i6 issues

You cannot adjust idle mixture on a flusher device. It must be done in the water, in gear with motor warm. Initial mixture setting is 1-1/2 turn open from seated. Run motor in water, in gear and warm it up. Now adjust mixture screws 1/8 turn open, to allow acceleration, one screw at a time...

    2003 Johnson J90PLSTC Starting issues

When the engine fires, the bendix is supposed to disengage. The bendix is doing what it is supposed to do. The issue is why the engine is not starting when that happens. Usually it is a issue where the motor is out of tune. Make sure the primer bulb is hard, and hold the choke closed and...

Can someone please help me to identify what year this is there in no tag with the ser # and it has a reman power head so there's no # on the block of

A '93 has a 1 piece cowling, not the clamshell that this one has. A picture of the carbs will let us know if they are wmv or wmk. I think the wmv were used on early models, and didn't have idle mixture adjustments. Later models had adjustable idle mixtures.

    Project Boat

You will want a V8 in that 23 footer or a V6 in the 21 footer. They will be dogs with smaller I/O motors. An outboard powered boat of those sizes will have lots more room in the cockpit since they have no dog house. MerCruisers of those years need a lot of maintenance. Stuff just wears out...

Can someone please help me to identify what year this is there in no tag with the ser # and it has a reman power head so there's no # on the block of

Obviously a Merc V6. Since it has the clamshell cowling, that makes it late 80s or earlier. Most common were 150HP, but there were 135HP and 175HP motors in V6 as well. Merc changed from a single 40A voltage regulator to twin 20A VRs. What do you have? Carbs may have a WMK or WMV number...
