    1997 175HP Oceanrunner Idle Adjustment

Unfortunately those 60*V6 motors from that era tend to do that. It has been called heat soak. I do not know the fix, but the workaround is to let 'em fast idle after restart for several minutes until the heat soak is gone. They do that with the proper OMS (VRO2) pump installed. I would make...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

So you get a full swim platform with an OB. That is nice. This OB will likely have two sets of gears like an I/O. Not so good. Anyone know if it is self draining, or does it need to be drained like an I/O?

What’s this parts name and number?

Good for you. Otherwise it is down to the home despot, grab a 1/8 plate of alum. plate and drill, cut and file to shape and cut a hole and install a screen. Not a bad project.

    Electrical Drain Issue

If I understand your post, a series 27 battery was drained in one day. That is a large short. I would expect you would hear or see sparks when connecting the battery, with the switch on. You will need an ammeter to fix the short. You would connect the ammeter from battery positive post to...

    SEI OUTDRIVE

I would expect a new outdrive to come pre-greased. Also, Alpha 1 Gen II drives do not need to be greased each year, or so I have been told. I would turn the outdrive all the way and see what it contacts (if anything) at max turn. Look inside and outside the hull. Maybe the power steering...

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

Is the link and synch proper? That motor should have an idle pickup timing of 0-9* ATDC, so the carbs should be closed until the timing is in that range. Then they should start to open. Max spark advance s/b 21* BTDC. Also, the carbs should open fully with the throttle fully open. Carb...

Merc 90 won't go into high speed with the cover on the motor.

An exhaust leak into the cowling? My '93 Merc V6 has an exhaust relief tube from the powerhead to the outside world. If it leaks, exhaust gets into the cowling and then into the carbs. Exhaust has less O2. Less O2 means no power.

What are good internet places to get vintage Evinrude parts?

Gee, it kinds depends on what you are looking for. Normal maintenance parts will be easily available. Other parts will be a lot harder to find. Hopefully you only need ign, carb and cooling system parts. The best thing is to get a part number and official description and search the web.

    Quit on the Water!

I would expect iboats to have your ign system, as well as ebasicpower, crowleymarine, marineengine and hundreds of others. I expect they will have individual pieces or complete (points, coil, condenser) sets. I do not have a lot of experience with those ign systems, but if you really feel...

    Painting a boat trailer

Mike, Why not use "Cold Galvanizing" spray paint? It works real well, and is very close in color to the original galvanized finish, so you do not have any spots.

    Painting a boat trailer

If rust is an issue, I would recommend Rustolium Rusty Metal Primer. It is pretty good at sealing existing rust and preventing new rust. It is soft and thick and oil based. Not sure how it will spray up. Brushing makes sure you put a good thick coat on. Spray some Rustolium enamel over it...

Should I buy a 115 hp Johnson built in 2000?

60* carb versions are real good, provided they have been cared for.

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

Your carb idle mixture adjustment is likely too lean. Open the mixture screws 1/8 turn and see if that helps. using the trial and error method, adjust all six mixture screws until she accelerates well, and still idles. Of course, this supposes that you have mixture adjustment screws. Not...

    1970 115 Tower Of Power

You will want the Mercury brand service manual. Not sure where to get it, but you can try Mercury Marine, Fondulac, Wisconsin Parts diagrams may be shown on crowleymarine web site. Not sure they go back that far, but that motor should have lots in common with il6 motors up to 1978.

    Quit on the Water!

The ignition system on that Fastwin is not all that expensive to replace. They were used for many years, and are likely made by Sierra and possibly GLM, if OEM is too costly or NA.

Floor reinforcement for fiberglass river boat

Adding plywood would add some strength, but not much. A center stringer, and a plywood deck over all three stringers would be stronger. A frame, gunwale to gunwale would effectively cut the length of the stringers thereby adding strength, but you would need to step over it. Not much in the...

The water drain holes I don't understand

Haulover inlet is real challenging. I saw a 30 footer stuff it's bow and crack the bow fiberglass well above the bow eye. Also, larger boats take water over the bow. Narration says to go faster to keep bow up. Has no one ever thought to trim motor up?

    1971 two stroke Johnson

Look for exhaust leak under cowling. Powerhead base is likely culprit. Also, my Merc had a rubber tube for exhaust relief. It ran from powerhead base thru cowling. When it leaked exhaust into cowling, engine would not run well.

    Quit on the Water!

That motor would have twin magnetos, right? Inspect them and look for cracks in the coils. If you find those, replace the magnetos. If no cracks, ign system should be good.
