1984 Conroy Ski Boat - Rotten Floor

Was there fiberglass cloth or at least chop over the waferboard deck?

    Stuck Trim in Up Position

Trim switches in the throttle handle are usually replaceable. Their wires usually need to go around the throttle pivot, and can rub. Maybe the insulation rubbed off and made a connection between the up and power wires? Look for a couple of screws on the throttle arm, and a cover plate...

1999 mercury 135hp outboard. Did these pieces shoot out of exhaust.

Lets hope that they did not come from the engine. I know of no place in the engine that would use something like those.

    Stuck Trim in Up Position

Sometimes the thumb toggle switches for the trim get water in them and the water completes the up circuit. See if you can blow it out, or replace the trim switch. Obviously you will want to test if first.

Transom repair done, what type of paint for bilge?

If the bilge is perpetually wet, regular paint, and even one part polyurethane paint will not hold up. How about tinting some gelcoat black?

1984 Conroy Ski Boat - Rotten Floor

I expect that is a judgement you need to make yourself. If you can cut out the deck, with the cap on, it is best, as it will help support the hull. Obviously you need to inspect the stringers after the deck is out, as well as replace any waterlogged foam floatation. Waterproof the new deck...

    motors

Best motors ever built? On what criteria? The 60* V6 motors from both OMC and Mercury were real good in terms of power and reliability. Of course they were simple carb 2 cycle motors. They were made from 1977 until at least 2010, with the later models being e-TEC and Optimax versions. The...

    Spindle pitting or discoloration?

After you install the new races and greased bearings, install the grease seal. Now put the hub on and install the washer and nut. Spin the hub and tighten the nut with a wrench, until the hub stops. Now, without turning the hub, loosen the nut and then tighten it by hand. Now spin the hub...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Certainly the promise of 2 cycle DI motors was low emissions, and 4 cycle outboard technology was unusual and therefore unproven. I think this created a market for 2 cycle DI outboard motors. At this point, with 4 cycle OB motors having been around for a decade plus, those disadvantages have...

90HP 2 Stroke Exhaust Port scaling

Check/replace thermostat as well. Use TCW-III rated oil. The piston skirt is the first to run out of lubrication, out of all the motor parts. That is, if you run the motor without oil, the first parts to be damaged are the piston skirts/cylinder walls. The bearings will survive longer...

    Quit on the Water!

Not knowing where on the cam to set the point gap is precisely why using the ohmmeter to set them is a good idea. Wear of the cam and point rub block is also another good idea to use the ohmmeter to set the points. Don't forget to install the oilers.

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

I think the 2 cycle direct injection engine are doomed. They do not have any real weight or simplicity advantage over 4 cycle engines, and most do not like the smoke. I have not seen any new ones in a while, and I live in a waterfront community. Does any major OEM still offer 2 cycle DI...

Mariner 1996 Outboard 150 [L] bogs down at 2k rpm

Running the motor with less oil will make it run real well for a very short time. After that it will have less than the required number of moving parts. Stick to 50::1 mix. It should run just fine on premix that has been sitting. I suspect your carbs are not clean or adjusted correctly.

1980s mercury 115 tower of power issues!

A serial no. beginning with A9 makes the motor an 1986, according to Maxrules.

90HP 2 Stroke Exhaust Port scaling

You need to determine and mitigate the cause of the piston scoring. It could be overheating or lean mixture, so clean the carbs and replace the impeller and thermostat. I presume Lucas is TCW-III rated? Do you premix the fuel?

1980s mercury 115 tower of power issues!

I do not think your mechanic is well versed on inline 6 engines. Not all his fault as those motors are usually older than the mechanic. Il6 motors do not have slip rings. They have labyrinth seals, which seal the crankcases individually, as required by a 2 cycle engine. These fail, but do so...

    Slow mode vro

SLOW mode is triggered by overheat sensor. The overheat sensor grounds a wire that runs to the powerpack and the alarm buzzer. If the buzzer is bad, the motor will still go into SLOW, but the alarm may not sound. 8 years is a long time for an impeller to pump. Was it changed? If not it is...

J150EXECD Looks like I need a new float?

Even the picture of the new ones shows cracks, however, it is hard to be sure if the cracks are the same. I would expect them to be avail aftermarket. OEM ones are $26 ea.

There was an electric ski boat some years ago. It was conventional battery powered. You had about an hour of skiing and 12 hours to charge up.
