    Transom Repair 1984 Bomber Scout

You can rebuild that transom from the outside, without removing the cap. You would cut the transom out, line the deck, sides and under the splashwell with 2x2 P/T lumber to screw the new transom to. Glass the 2x2s to the top sides and deck, and follow the deck 2x2 with SS screws Now cut 2...

1993 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner broken steering arm

If you need to replace it, it is a pretty big job as you need to remove powerhead, gearcase and motor mounts. Used swivel shafts are available.

    Throttle control box

A lot of those shifters have the ability to operate as throttle only. There is a way to disconnect the shift cable. Two ways are a "throttle only" button, or pulling out on the throttle handle. Sometimes they stick that way, and you have no shifting. You might see if the throttle only button...

1993 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner broken steering arm

If I understand the term Steering Arm, it is one piece including the swivel shaft and upper motor mounts. I am not sure how you could use the motor without it, as I cannot think of a way to repair it.

Does my outboard have a thermostat.

Looks to be a 1991. One would expect it to have a thermostat, however, I could not find one in the parts diagram.

    Throttle control box

Gee, any remote control for MerCruiser Alpha I. A lot of those are side mount. They can be replaced with another side mount. They come in universal and MerCruiser alpha only styles. Unless you really hate your current control, replace with same kind to reduce cutting and drilling. What is...

    wiring help please

The black box could be an overheat buzzer. It is near a grating. Is that for the horn?

    wiring help please

US Marine should have instruction on their web site, I would presume. Does maxrules have any wiring diagrams for the Force Motor? They will have one for the Merc. OK, you can narrow it down. Tach will not go to the ign switch, but ign power will. The ign switch will also have starter...

    Bilge pump float sticking.

Grub, it takes a real long time (months) for the water sensing bilge pumps to affect the battery, if there is no water to pump. If you run the boat once a week, and your charging system and batteries are good, you will not have any issue.

    Fuel issue please help !!

The idle circuit is in the throttle bodies. There are usually side plates that cover the idle needle. You can remove them and spray the passages, and install a new gasket and plate. Make sure the spaghetti seals between throttle body and intake manifold, and carb and throttle bodies are...

    Bilge pump float sticking.

There are bilge pumps with built in float switches. There are also bilge pumps that use electronic timers to check for water and then pump it out. Why not leave the existing pump and use it manually and install a new automatic one.

    How big can I go??

NADA tables may tell you. Mirrocraft has a web site. Perhaps you can match it up to a current or older model. 16 foot aluminum rowboats used to be rated to 25HP.

    Swim ladders

If that boat is a low profile hull, a single step ladder will work. I had one on my speedboat, however I took it off as it is just as easy (maybe easier) to step on the motors antiventilation plate and then step into the boat.

1995 Stingray 4.3L Mercruiser No Start

Gee, I change mine every year or every other year. I like to dump it into a clear container and see if there is any water. They need to be filled with fuel, when installed or it is real hard to prime the fuel line. My neighbor didn't change his in 4 years, and it rusted thru. Since his...

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

A couple of other ideas. First, are all the spark plugs now the same color? If not, they may not be firing and that can easily cause decent idle and lousy acceleration. Second, if you run the engine with the cowling off, and she performs well, you likely have an exhaust leak into the cowling.

What kind of bolts for aluminum handles?

Silicon bronze was used on boats for a long time. So was chrome plated brass. I would expect either to be strong enough.

    Seaswirl questions

There is a website for Seaswirl Striper owners. They are pretty knowledgeable. It is the Stripers Owners Club www.soc.com Remember, boats come with lots of accessories, sometimes switches are installed for stuff the boat doesn't have. I use the wiper switch to run my stereo and GPS, since I...

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

I think your motor does have a flush port. It should also have some kind of exhaust relief. Exhaust relief is a port that is used for exhaust when engine is in the water and in neutral. It is hard for the exhaust to push the water out the prop, hence the exhaust relief port. They are usually...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Gee, why not bolt on a SeaDrive and call it a night? Wait, those failed, didn't they?

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

OK, what kind of boat is it on? What pitch prop? If the prop pitch is too much, the motors can be finicky. I doubt water is getting in the exhaust relief. They are pretty high on the engine. On another note. My '93 Merc V6 has a "Z-shaped" exhaust hose from the block to the cowling. It...
