Fuel system fail on new boat

Heck, take a portable tank and fuel line with you for test. Connect the built in tank to the big motor ONLY and see if it works. if some of the "plumbing" to either motor leaks air into the fuel line, you will have fuel starvation.

    8-pin cable plug harness

The middle pin looks to be the +12VDC power wire. That would send battery power to the helm. Without it the motor would not crank, but would continue to run. If the boat side of the harness is good, you could replace the engine harness, pretty easily. Heck the boat harnesses are not all that...

1998 johnson 115 lower unit leak

The only reasons the gear oil would leak with new seals is if the bearings allow prop shaft movement that the seal cannot cover, a nick in the propshaft, bearing carrier or housing ripped the Oring or seal or the housing is out of round, or scored. You are only supposed to put grease on the...

23-24 foot vs 26-28 foot pros and cons?

26 footers with single 305/350 I/O power can be dogs. Cruising (actually getting on plane) means everyone forward, into the cabin until she planes, then everyone back to their previous positions. Watersports with them suck more. Try to get one with a big block engine. They at least have more...

Looking for part number to buy a red OMC/Johnson remote tilt/trim switch on throttle handle

Gee, I am pretty sure you could get an aftermarket control with wiring, key and trim switch for $150-$200. They are not real hard to put in. You might check crowleymarine for the switch and get a part number, Flea Bay or someone might have NOS. Look at the accessories section for your year...

Grinding on hull for floor replacement

I would feather the edge of the old fiberglass. When you lay the new glass to tie the new deck too the hull, make the first layer 1/4" overlap, the second layer 1/2" overlap and so on. In your case use several layers of light cloth, versus chop strand mat. That will give the smoothest joint...

Engine will not keep running without enricher being pushed non stop.

Carb cleaner is fine for carbs, at least the aluminum part of them. It may (may) harm some of the plastic pieces. If the shop that cleaned the carbs was trustworthy, they should be clean. Did they (or you) replace the inlet needle, seat, float and gaskets? That is a normal part of the...

Need the location for idle adjust arm

You should get a service manual and check the link and synch for that motor. Simply raising the idle speed is not the best way to fix it. All the adjustments are on, or effect the throttle arm.

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

as Merc 850 said, that motor is the best "FrankenMerc" I have ever seen. That silver block means it is old, pre 70's.

    Transom question

Boat ratings usually specify max HP, but not weight. As long as you are at or under Max HP, you should be fine. The extra weight should not make any difference. You do walk back to the motor area, right? You weigh more than 100 # and the boat doesn't sink, right?

    Engine Cover/Rear Decking

The doghouse on my SeaRay tilted forward on hinges, and the hinges from it to the deck could separate, so it could be removed completely. Not a bad design.

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

It should be on the transom bracket, in the front top. The thumb screws on your motor were a bit different than the ones on my '77 Merc 1500. Decals were the same. You may therefore have a 1976 motor. The factory service manual I had covered all Merc motors from about 1980, back to 1971...

1979 mercury 90 hp has no spark

Disconnect the ign killer wire at the switchboxes. On that motor, the ign killer wire is orange, salmon or perhaps black/yellow. The color kind of depends on what the replacement wiring harness has.

Johnson 150 V6 Ocean Runner - not starting

Shorted ground wire? Do you mean dirty ground wire connectors or broken ground wire?

    Stopped working

What year is the motor? VRO narrows it down from mid -80s to most recent 2 cycle motor. If could be stator, powerpack or wiring. You might disconnect the black/yellow and black/orange wires at the powerpack and see if spark returns. That is of course, if you have those wires.

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

You will want a factory service manual. Try Mercury marine.

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

If the steering rod is bent or mushroomed, it will jam in the tilt tube, as you are seeing. Since the cable is cut off and ruined, drive the steering rod out to port and grind it smaller or cut it off.

Johnson 150 V6 Ocean Runner - not starting

A lot of those motors use battery voltage to the powerpack, when the engine is cranking, to generate spark. You might look for the red/yellow wire from the starter solenoid to the powerpack. Maybe it broke or got dirty.

1995 Stingray 4.3L Mercruiser No Start

#8 is the slave solenoid. usually located on the block, your front left. They can fail. Some of them had starter circuit breakers, maybe #7? Also, I sometimes had the starter solenoid hang up in it's "cylinder". You get a click, but no spin of the starter when that happens. Most often...
