    98 Mercury 150 running issue

Do you see grey deposits on the black spark plugs, or water droplets?

    98 Mercury 150 running issue

Black spark plugs indicate they are not firing. They either do not have spark, they are getting flooded with fuel or they have water in the cylinders. You might take a compression test and see if those two are low.

Mercury 1977 200HP with exteral Trim/Tilt motor inside boat mount.

You could put a bulkhead in front of the transom. They acted as a splashwell, but were removeable. With a tight fitting frame, they kept any splashed water under control. You would obviously need a bilge pump. The port side has a nice "bump in" that could hold the bulkhead. I do not see a...

    Prop swap lost 10 mph

Some props hold the water better than others. What is the difference in design between the two props?

    Adding another rectifier

Gee, what is the charging capacity of your motor? no more than 30A. I would think, so, say 15A most on the second battery, 10AWG wire gets it, plus some extra.

Steering bracket help 1959 lark 35

Does the motor turn the same amount in both directions? if so, you are probably rigged correctly and the steering system is what it is. If the motor turns more one way than the other, you may be able to adjust the steering cable length where it clamps into the holder. It also looks like...

    1989 Sea Ray 160

One more thing. If the fuel drained back into the built in fuel tank, it is likely the anti siphon valve on the fuel tank has failed, or doesn't exist. A-S valves act as another check valve for the fuel system. A-S valves are usually located on the fuel pickup fitting. You should have a...

    Adding another rectifier

I am not sure if that would damage the regulator or rectifier. It will cause you to modify the wiring, possibly leading to corrosion or other wiring issues. I do not think a second rectifier provides any advantage however. A rectifier is simply a set of diodes that allow AC voltage and...

Mercury 1977 200HP with exteral Trim/Tilt motor inside boat mount.

Gee, it looks like you have it in a good spot now. The splashwell (you will have a splashwell?) will cover it fine. I am not an expert, but a splashwell in at least the center will keep a lot of water out of your boat. I presume that motor is LS? Splash happens. There used to be a bag...

    Unknown Part Name

The bad overheat sensor could be kicking the motor into SLOW mode, and then letting it out, or it could actually be detecting an overheat. Normally when an overheat is detected the motor goes into SLOW and stays there, even if the motor cools off, so the powerpack would be acting up as well...

    1989 Sea Ray 160

Primer bulbs do not need to be vertical. Fuel filters also do not need to be vertical. Primer bulbs have two check valves in them. I would think it rare for both to fail.

    Prop question

It depends on the RPM of the motor with the 19P prop, and the available power of the motor. If the motor cannot spin the 21P prop to the max recommended RPM, you could loose speed. Alternatively, if the 19P prop allows the motor to exceed max RPM, the 21P prop can add speed. How much is not...

    Adding another rectifier

Gee, unless you are running some powerful electronics with the engine off, 2 batteries should have lots of power for your electronics. if you run powerful electronics, set the battery switch to the odd battery on odd days and even battery on even days, when you stop the engine. After starting...

Mercury 1977 200HP with exteral Trim/Tilt motor inside boat mount.

Usually they are mounted under the splashwell, but above the bilge. I had one on my 16 footer, and if fit fine. I did not think Merc made a 200HP motor in 1977. They did make a 175HPV6 Black Max.

    Yamaha binnacle for Mercury outboard

Is the binnacle a yamaha brand, or universal? If universal, there should be some way of adapting it. Mercs need to have the throttle pushed closed, unlike Johnnyrudes, which push the throttle open. Not sure what Yamaha needs.

    1988 SeaRay Seville Throttle

Maybe the insulation on the PTT wires is worn away. If it is the same throttle that I had on my'88 SeaRay, there are two screws that hold a cover plate over the wires. I would remove it and see what is rubbing.

    Trim Tab Anode

Merc makes at least 3 different anodes for above and behind the prop. One is flat and usually used for boats with power steering. One has a small fin and is used with props with extra rake. One has a larger fin and is used with standard props. If the boat pulls, choose one with the largest...

    Adding another rectifier

What are you trying to accomplish? if you simply want both batteries to charge, connect them via a battery switch, and set it to both. You could also just connect both batteries in parallel with cables. If you want to isolate the batteries from each other, say one battery for starting and...

    1989 Sea Ray 160

There are only three places I could think of for the fuel to go. 1) Your fuel pump has a diaphragm between the crankcase and the fuel line. If it gets a hole in it, fuel can drain into the crankcase. 2) If the check valves in the primer bulb are bad, fuel can drain back into the fuel tank...

23-24 foot vs 26-28 foot pros and cons?

Putting a dual prop outdrive on a too small engine for the boat, does not fix the problem. Dual props track straighter, but do not manufacture HP.
