    thinking 40 and 50 were basically the same on older Yamahas, newer ones the 50 and 60 look at the part breakdowns to see what all is different

    I guess this is a F40 with fuel injection. low fuel level in VST causing the pump to try pumping air instead of fuel would shut the motor down like you turned off the switch. lift pump sucking air, tank vent plugged causing a vacuum to form in tank, restricted pick-up tube in tank, return line...

    is it shutting off completely or just reducing RPMs? do you have overheat or low oil pressure indicators that show up when this happens?

    if it is a CDI on that motor, you need to test the inputs that tell the CDI to fire those plugs. if the inputs are not in spec find out why if the inputs are good but the out put is bad, then maybe the CDI is bad

    need to find out what sends signals to coils on this motor, if cdi YOU CAN TEST INPUTS AND OUTPUTS, IF SOMETHING ELSE, YOU TEST THOSE. Sorry for the caps, but i am not retyping

    1992 Suzuki dt85 hp 2 stroke low charging output voltage.

    I would trace the wires from under the flywheel from the lighting coil/stater that furnishes ac power/voltage all the way to where it eventually heads to battery. maybe the rectifier/regulator failed, and they just bypassed it sending Ac to the battery

    and it seems we have no idea what motor you have since you did not tell us If you stop water flow a motor heats up quickly never heard of a water flow sensor before, but have heard of water level in older Zuks. they might even still have them
