    just have a heavy friend jump up and down when you are pressing the down button. you are mashed up against the end of the cylinder and the PO check valves are now stuck closed holding the drive up.

    Thats an oildyne pump Pull the drive, you are supposed to every year anyway. Check bellows, gimbal bearing and alignment. Then split it on the tailgate of the truck Start at the exhaust elbows and work backwards to the raw water pump..... Backflushing as you go

    with a milkshake in the oil. drain the antifreeze from the glycol side and pressure test. should hold 15 psi forever. test the anti-freeze you pull out with a refractometer. make sure it is good. my guess, with the antifreeze low, the coolant freeze point is way to high, so it froze.

    Verify it is a vortec head (8 intake bolts) Any 1996 - 2003 GM truck with a 4.3 V6 in your local salvage yard will have the same head. However you should look at the other head and block as well. The chances of just a single head being freeze damaged is extremely low

    a 12 volt battery is dead at 12 volts, fully charged at 12.7. alternators charge between 13.4 and 14 volts. I think your $1 air core dash gauge is off.

    on an SBC, you are over filled if you are 1" below the oil pan lip. that means the crank is splashing in the oil creating foam
