Add kill switch to 6hp Johnson - Model 6R72D

AMazon also sells nice compact wireless switches that you could use to kill the engine remotely....or you can bring the switch up near the steering but.... those wires carry strong coil kickbacks voltages when the points open up.... best to keep the wires short with some 12v DC you...

    ‘92 Johnson 90HP - Bad rectifier?

happy ending... GREAT :) thanks for your feedback.. BTW the lamp trick was extensively used in the Telco industry central offices..to prevent needless blow fuses when certain loads were exceeded ! old phones used 130 v 20 cycle power to ring the phonebells.....anytime a 20 cycle supply...

Add kill switch to 6hp Johnson - Model 6R72D

if you hook in extra wires on the points where the condensers are connected and install a NORMALLY OPEN switch pushing the switch will kill the ignition. very simple hook up...

    ‘92 Johnson 90HP - Bad rectifier?

https://maxrules.com/fixomcwiringcodes.html on "earlier models"... .the fused +12v also routes to the " regulator" when the key is ON....so keep that in mind.... sorry can't find the 92 version

    ‘92 Johnson 90HP - Bad rectifier?

large wires are not fused so I do not expect them to be the reason the fuse blows. one of the loads distributed by the switch ON position is drawing to many amps which kills the fuse. the light bulb will help you work on the circuitry save you some fuses :) ohms law..... V= RxI...

    ‘92 Johnson 90HP - Bad rectifier?

the basic wiring shows the fuse feeding the front key switch which returns momentary voltages to T&T relays , the starter selenoid etc... the T&T motor itself is transferred full B+ power unfused so it is not the likely source of the problem . Neither should it be the selenoid...

130 Johnson leaking fuel and flooding Cylinder

holes are for balancing carb internal air volumes... do all carbs leak ??? could be a simple float/inlet needle issue on 1 carb but 4 ???? IF so fuel pressure may be exceeding the float capacity to block fuel ingress. Think of them as small toilet bowls. simple designs & auto cut-off...

    1984 Johnson 6HP

    1984 Johnson 6HP

well it could be the upper oil seal but unlikley so just drop the GC you will see if it flows down from above (sludge) or exits UP from the lower sealed cavity of the GC

    Carburetor leaking

that hole is a carb vent to let air in or out as the float allows fuel to enter and when the fuel gets sucked in the engine. if fuel comes out the float/inlet needle is not doing it's job

    1984 Johnson 6HP

drained oil sludge... unburnt fuel/oil carbon etc... also.... keep the small drain hole open with a pipe cleaner or piece of stiff wire so it can do it's job and let water out if you store outside in freezing temperatures !! Always drain and replace the GC oil before long term...

Carb issue with 1969 6hp Johnson

are you experiencing carb issues or just doing maintenance..in case. you may be able to get way with just blasting the lower jet (do not remove it) behind the bolt at the bottom and..gently unscrewing the top needle and give a good shot of carb cleaner to purge the LS circuit...

    2 HP Mate Coil

make certain you line up the coil edges with the mounting. fingernail should not snag...up or down . put one drop of 30 oil on the felt and if you are going to go to the trouble of changing the coil may as well change the plug wire which is probably as old as the coil !
