    friend wants me to look at his motor. It is not the usual Oldies I work on. Even the ignition is to modern for me so hopefully just a good cleaning and point touch up will do it .

    ok it is filthy... but in gear...does it turn the prop if you turn the drive shaft or... is it totally stuck solid with rust if it turns refill with oil turn the drive shaft with a drill for 5 minutes or so (in gear F N and R ) dump the oil and inspect for metal chips, rusty...

    if the fuel pump can suck enough to collapse the bulb the it must be working ok imho have you checked the fuel pick-up in the tank or changed hose ? . some hoses have a plastic like lining which gets to deteriorate over time. as to water ...find the leak but likely not...

    i think you have a good plan... clean the carb lncl the top idle drip chamber Should I remove the Black lever from the idle mixture screw in the pic in order to fully turn it 1 1/2? yes after the carb job... adjust LS with no knob....then install the knob mid-way of it's tr travel range...

    do the blow est with mouth air pressure blowing in the inlet nipple then turn the carb upside down to blow air . doing it manually by pushing on the needle against compressed air is not the usual way to do it. see if you can feel good suction on the carb face when cranking .. it is...

    after refills..... cycle up/down several times... refill... cycle up and down 3-4 times refill to remove all the air

    try to run it with fuel cap OFF ... IF OK clean two VERY small vent holes under the vent screw ...which you did open :) did you clean the low speed circuit under the dime size plug on top....

    Canned air to clean keyboards found at the Dollar store ($4CDN) makes a great freezer spray when held upside down :-) no need to buy the expensive stuff for electronics .
