Boat Swamped in Storm - Next steps?

Freshwater is not usually a problem. Get the motor running and let her idle for 45 minutes to dry her out. Let the rest of the boat drain and dry out. Electronics like depth finders and radios may have been damaged, but the engine and boat wiring harnesses should be fine. I expect the...

1993 Johnson 115hp prop for sking

A few questions... How big/heavy is the boat? What pitch prop do you have? How big is the kid? Slalom skiers can easily fight the boat, especially if he has both feet in the bindings. Does the kid know to tuck the ski under his butt and get up dragging his other foot behind him?

    possible warning noise

You might post this in the MerCruiser forum. My '88 MerCtruiser had an oil pressure sensor which alarmed if key was on and motor not running. What you have described is not normal.

    Small prop to avoid damage?

A stainless steel prop will take all kinds of punishment from sand and silt, and love it. Not for use in rocks of any size.

Question About Anchoring Closed Bow Boat

They have guide rollers that are mounted on the bow. They hold the anchor when not in use. You can run the anchor line back to the drivers position and cleat it there. When you want to anchor, uncleat the line and let the anchor drop from the guide rollers. Cleat it when sufficient scope of...

Mercury 850 took the leg off 1976 thunder bolt

Be advised that the upper shift rod is not held down. It can rise up in the midsection, as it bumps into the lower shift rod. Look under the carbs in the front to see this. Also, you may need to "bump" the throttle handle a bit to line up the shift shafts. The shift cables are often a bit...

Mercury 850 took the leg off 1976 thunder bolt

The upper and lower shift shafts can easily not line up. On those older motors there is a plastic fitting that holds the upper shift shaft in place. They often fall into the gearcase, around the lower shift shaft. Put it back into the midsection and it will help hold the upper shift. A...

Fuel Tank Contamination (for your information)

Contaminated fuel is not the end all. If the fuel level gauge is accessible, remove it and tilt the trailer tongue all the way up. This puts the fuel in the rear part of the fuel tank. Now siphon it all out and either filter it or dispose of it.

JUST CHANGED THE STARTER AND SOLENOID.

You will want to use a Johnnyrude solenoid. Automotive solenoids have an annoying habit of sparking, when energized. Not good under the hood of an OB with gas fumes everywhere.

    1989 Seville 19 questions

NADA says you could have a V8. Since the power of a V8 is about 220HP, and a 4.3LV6 power is 205HP, it makes sense. 10% more power on that boat from what I had is very reasonable.

    Crack in Hull

That needs to be fixed from the inside, IMO. I expect you will find the fiberglass is failing around that area, for some distance. Is that directly under the ski locker? I had an '88 SeaRay Seville (same hull). There was a piece of plywood between the floor of the ski well and the keel...

    Mercury I6 Powerhead ID

Block part number should tell you that info. It used to be stamped (moulded?) near where crankcase and crankcase cover bolt together, on transfer cover side. Check Crowleymarine parts list for both 115 and 90HP models of that year. Block serial number should also tell, but I am not sure what...

    Mercury 150 Outboard Charging Question

You might check for a drain when the motor is off. Put an ammeter in series between the battery positive post and the battery positive cable. With ign key off and all accessories off, see if she draws some amperage. Some Merc 150HP OBs have dual VRs. One could be shorted to ground? A guess.

JUST CHANGED THE STARTER AND SOLENOID.

Outboards tend to use the starter solenoid to connect multiple cables, as a convenience. You should have only one cable on each of the smaller solenoid terminals, (usually yellow/red and black) and only one cable on the starter cable terminal. The rest should be on the battery cable terminal.

    Engine dies won't restart

MerCruiser sterndrives have ign kill switches on the shifting mechanisms. They can get stuck leaving a no spark condition. Not sure if inboards have those.

Where is fuel sending unit for 2003 Crownline 226?

Fuel level gauges are usually located on the middle to rear part of the tank. They have a better chance of being accurate in that location.

    Mercury I6 Powerhead ID

The Maxrules web site has a model year guide for Mercs. That should ID your powerhead. As for the gearcase....a '78 gearcase will have the straight down trailing edge on the skeg. The newer gearcase will likely have the swept back skeg.

    Tilt remote switch

Has it ever worked, or is it new to you? You might look under the engine cowling and see if the remote trim switch is connected. Look for blue/white and green/white wires. Trace the wires from the engine switch and see if they meet.

    Cause of this milky water

Upper driveshaft seal is pretty easy to replace, since you just need to pull the flywheel to get at it. Do it whenever convenient. Also, if they leak, water does not get into the motor, just some extra air. It is real smart to replace the lower crankshaft seals, while you have the powerhead off.

Any way to change just one piston and rings on 1988 Mercury 115 L6 2 stroke?

You can pull all pistons out of the block, still connected to the crankshaft. Merc uses six special ring compressors to install the crank/piston assembly. Can you do it without those special tools, I have no idea. I know that you cannot install the crank/piston assembly YOURSELF without...
