    2 Black sparkplugs

I think you have a two bbl carb not 4 bbl as no manifold ofr 3.0 exists that takes a 4 bbl carb. If your idle mix is too rich this can cause them to foul like this. I think on a merc 3.0 there is only one opening for the carb so it will feed all cylinders. It sounds like may be you need to set...

    Edelbrock 1409 tuning

.045 thats what I run on my mercruiser with same heads and plugs. Thats what you ran these tests at and seems to be working right? I honestly dont think you'd see a difference between .035 and .045 gap in this setting anyways....

these fittings take the blue plastic drian plugs for winterizing. You can also remove this fitting and just use a 1/4" pipe plug

    Fuel - Pickup, Anti-Siphon, Fuel-Water Separator

I would think as Kenny mentioned get rid of the in tube screen, get the water out of the tank, change your filters regularly/until it stays with no water, service the points, but you probably also need to clean the carb. Willing to bet there is crud in there

    White Smoke/High Idle

Hard to say off the info given, may not be an issue - may just be condensation in engine cooking off. is this carbed or fuel injected. If concern is cooling system leak places to check are - 1. pressure test cooling system this will show a head gasket leak 2. possible water is leaking in...

Volvo Penta runs great but burns oil

What makes you think the oil needs to be changed? Is it black? You may be getting fuel in there via running overly rich carb wise or if you may have fuel coming in via the fuel pump diagraphragm if ruptured.

1995 Bayliner Capri 1800LS bimini suggestions

I went through same exercise on my sea ray 170, had a factory bimini that was part of a multi-piece cover, was low as the front snapped to the top of the windshield. Was nice with the side curtains when it was raining but too small and low for sunny days. I got a unviversal fit bimini from...

    2 Black sparkplugs

They are all showing a bit rich.here is a article on plug reading http://wallaceracing.com/plug-reading-lm.html i assume the correct jets for this engine are in the carb ? Id recheck the float level and verify fuel pressure is like 4-5 psi what makes you think the delco ignition is weaker...

Could a 4 blade actually be faster?

I think 38 is probably about the realstic top end for a 3.0 .that is what I saw in my 170. Might be worth weighing your boat or seeing if water is under the floor given the age of it. The slip numbers are really high, so would think either the boat is way heavier or tach is wrong. Easy to...

    Edelbrock 1409 tuning

check the plugs first that should drive your next steps int terms of rich or lean primaries or secondary jets... If the springs didnt make a diff try one the other way lighter spring to make it stay lean a little longer. In the end I found on my 5.0 the 1409 was pretty much except for...

Could a 4 blade actually be faster?

First verify your tach is accurate vs a shop tach or tach in a modern timing light. I would doubt a 3.0 will swing a 19" to 5300, so if tach is off there is some of your slip issue (rpms arent actually that high). Is the prop in good conditon? Four blades generally are slower, I ran two...

    Wellcraft 170 American underpropped?

verify your tach it may be off as 5500 rpm this engine wont live very long , 4800 is the upper limit. 3.0 s are not noted for their power its only 135/140 hp. First is the engine in good operational condition ? Compression ok, ignition components serviced , fuel system carb in good working...
